St. Louis Hotels
 

Thinking about a trip in spring to St. Louis and need advice about hotel in $150-$200 range close to Blueberry Hill nightclub. Advice plz?

the Moonrise hotel is actually in U City on the same street as Blueberry Hill. Have never stayed there but hear it is nice.

there are also good strategies for bidding on Priceline for this hotel as well. It is the only 4 star offering in the Priceline Forest Park Clayton area.

Never bid on priceline but going to Saint Louis in June for concert in Maryland Heights.

IS this a bad location? We will have car.

2 adults one teen. Sightseeing, shopping and eating are on the agenda. Arriving early to enjoy the city.

Blueberry Hill is located on Delmar in the Delmar Loop section of St. Louis, and notbob is correct; the Moonrise Hotel is on the same street a couple of blocks away (it's on the opposite side of Blueberry Hill).

To me, the Delmar Loop in St. Louis is like Greenwich Village in New York; same kind of vibe. Lots of restaurants and shops on Delmar, and nearby is Forest Park, the History Museum, Art Museum,Zoo and the St. Louis Science Center. The downtown area where the Gateway Arch is located is maybe a 10 minute drive or so away.

Is it a bad location? I wouldn't consider it to be bad, but like all cities, St. Louis has its challenges, and with all cities, one should always be aware of their surroundings.

If you have a car, that's a good thing, as you'll be able to get to all the places you'd like to visit easily, and IMO, it's much better than having to wait for a bus. St. Louis does have a Metrolink light rail system, but it doesn't go everywhere, so again, a car is good to have.

Are you going to see someone special perform at Blueberry Hill?

Going to Flats Fest in Maryland Heights that Sunday evening. So wanting to extend the trip to see the sights and have some fun.

Please send suggestions. I am thinking we might change hotels on Sunday to be closer to concert location.

WAIT a cotton picking second, mscleo. The Metrolink doesn't GO anywhere? You mean anywhere a tourist would want to go besides Downtown, the Central West End, Forest Park, U City, Downtown Clayton?

whataboutit, I think the Moonrise would be fun. For my money, it's in a far more interesting area than Md Heights, besides being a couple of blocks from the Metro stop that takes you plenty of places, including downtown and the very fun for all ages City Museum. The Eclipse restaurant there is good, and there's a rooftop bar.

You can buzz out to the concert easily by car, then return to the Loop area and walk around.

Alternately, the Central West End has nice hotels and is fun on foot for breakfast etc.

Of course, if you did want to be closer to Md. Heights, the hotels at Westport Plaza would be natural choice. There's a Sheraton and others, probably also available on Hotwire.

Marlyland heights is not a bad area or location, but quite boring if you are a tourist - dont stay there. If you have a car stay in Westport or Clayton or even downtown.

The Chase Park Plaza in the Central Westend is great too - It is a beautifully renovated historic hotel with trendy good bard and restaurants on the premises. It is in walking distance to a lot of other great eateries, bars etc and close to Forest Park - PLEASE dont miss that while in STL.

Try Duff's restaurant, in the central west end. And Jimmy's, near the Cheshire Inn. Burgers at Blueberry Hill.

I agree about Blueberry HIll- good burgers and a lot of atmosphere!!! Maybe you get lucky and get a glimpse of Chuck Berry who plays here once a week!

Breakfast/brunch - Clayton - just a quick jump from Ucity

City Coffee on Brentwood Blvd - Great crepes - sweet and savory, homemade breads etc,,a nice outdoor side walk patio too.
Companion - On Maryland - the best made from scratch scones, danish, breads, egg dishes- and the have the BEST oatmeal in the world!! They serve lunch too.

dinner - clayton

BarCelona - Central AVe - a trendy, great vibe place for all ages! They have moslty Tapas - all very good . It also has a sidewalk patio. Fun place to go!

Pomme Cafe and Wine Bar - 44 N Central - It seems as if you are sitting in a little French Bistro in Paris - I have never had a bad meal at this charming restaurant, OPen late so you can go for a late dinner after concert etc,,, great wine list. Prices are very reasonable.

On Delmar where MoonRise is located you will find more ethnic restaurants on this one block than you can imagine - Ethiopian, Indian, Thai, Lebanes etc,,, Most are very good!

What kind of food do you like??

St Louis has a strong Italian population centered around an area called the Hill. Several good Italian spots there. We like Zia's, Charlie Gitto's, and Giovanni's (higher end).

Cafe Napoli in Clayton is another good Italian spot.

Like BBQ? Pappy's Smokehouse near downtown is great.

We just pricelined the Moonrise for about $80/night. It was a great hotel and met our needs.

In the Delmar area, there is a great middle eastern restaurant: Ranoush.

We also really like Pappy's Smokehouse- it was worth the cab ride and the long wait in line. It was awesomely delicious. Have fun!

Across from the Moonrise, Pi is a fun pizza place. We like the little Thai restaurant there, too. They have a new "homestyle" menu section.
