St. Louis hotels
 

My boyfriend and I are flying to St. Louis for a weekend in August to see a Rams preview game. Any sugestions on where to stay, what to do? Is the stadium in walking distance from hotels or areas of intersts?

Be ready for 100+ heat. There are many places to stay that are close to the stadium. All different price ranges.

Do a back search on this board. I seem to remember there's a new hotel very near the stadium - it may be a Westin - that people were absolutely raving about.

St. Louis can surprize you . Just when You think it'll be 100 degreees, you need a sweater! A few 4th of Julys were actually chilly.<BR>Clayton is a great place to stay if you have a car.<BR>Seven Gables Inn - is a registerd Historic land mark,very quaint, great resaurant and bar, has outdoor court yard w/ jazz. Walking distance to other great restaurants, galleries, etc<BR>The Danielle Hotel in quiet neighborhood, great location.<BR>Downtown - what is your budget?<BR>The adams Mark is nice can walk to Arch, river, clubs,...and stadium It has a fun club inside too.<BR>There are several new chic hotels jsut opened .I do not know the names- perhaps call Chamber of commerce.<BR>Do go to the zoo - It is one of the best in the world.<BR>

Though it's across from Busch, not the football dome (which keeps changing names), and probably won't be on sale for a football weekend, the Westin is the best hotel downtown.<BR>It's 10 blocks from the football stadium.

Jessica! Who are you kidding!!! St. Louis during August is VERY hot. I have lived here all my life (40+) and have never, ever needed a sweater May - Sept. August is the hottest month of all!

Yea right---I have been in St. Louis forever and the weather CAN be unpredictible, even in August! In fact, we frequently have cool spells in August. And what difference does it make for the game---it's inside!

Yearight is right! St. Louis is HOT!!!! The only think unpredictable is a rain storm or two. Pull up Weather.com and look at the history.

What most people don't understand is how the humidity affects the weather in the Midwest. St. Louis has very high humidity which relates to the "heat index." It can only be 93 on a thermometer but with the heat index it can feel 110. Weather sites fail to mention this. August is the hottest month and St. Louis experiences many heat related illness and deaths because of it. Drink plenty of fluids and rest if you start to feel over-heated.

We stayed at the Union Station hotel (I believe it's a Hilton) -- nothing special about the room although it was quite spacious. The location was great for a weekend visit (I don't know where the dome is from there) -- no car was necessary. Be warned that all the restaurants in that area close early. We expected to have dinner after a concert and NOTHING was open at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night -- we had to order Domino's because we were starving!

There are many hotels in walking distance to the Dome. If they're in town, you should try to squeeze in a Cardinals game too. Baseball is more fun in St. Louis than most places, don't know why. I'm not a big baseball fan, and never much cared for games when I lived in Chicago or Cincinnati. But, Cardinal games are really festive.<BR><BR>The Westin is next to Busch Stadium, within walking distance of the Dome. Adams Mark, Millennium, and Marriott are nearby, none of them are spectacular, but adequate. There is an Embassy Suites on the Laclede's Landing, just a couple blocks from the Dome. If you want to party, or eat late, the Landing is your best bet downtown. The Landing is pretty touristy, and the bar crowd is young (under 30). Another place to go out is on Washington Avenue, the clubs are a little hipper, the crowd 21-30s.<BR><BR>The Arch, Landing and riverfront are very near the Dome. You can easily hop on MetroLink to get to Union Station (which has a Hyatt). The Link will also take you to Central West End (Kingshighway stop) a great neighborhood with great restaurants, pubs, shops, architecture and people watching.<BR><BR>I also suggest the City Museum, on Washington Avenue near the clubs. It's a crazy, fun museum that is impossible to describe, you just have to experience it. My favorite part is Beatnik Bob's bar.
