St George Utah
 

My daughter (32) and I (61) are headed to St. George Utah for a long weekend in July. Looking for advise on what to do. We would like to spend good part of 2 days hiking. Trails on the moderate or moderate/easy as we are flat landers from Minnesota! We could break the day into several smaller hikes too. We are looking at Snow Canyon State Park We have considered Zion but reports are that it is crazy in July. We aren't interested in dealing with wall to wall people. Bryce Canyon came up too but that seems like a lot of driving for a short weekend. Any tips would be appreciated.

We will be staying at Red Mountain Resort so any dining ideas would be appreciated too.

ok, you are going to need to start at like 6am and be done by 10 or 12. It is usually in the 100s in July. Snow Canyon is a good option, I haven't been there so I can't make recommendations but people really like it. Try the Kolob Canyon section of Zion--that's fun and a bit higher and maybe cooler.

If driving a bit over an hour is ok, look at Cedar Breaks NP. It is at a higher elevation so should be cooler.

Thanks all. Actually based on your advise and some other input we have determined that this is not a good time of year for us to be in sunny Utah. We have picked Lake Superior and will do Utah another time.

MCHS--great choice!!! I live here and you can't pay me to go there to St George in the summer. The spring is lovely--April and even the winter is great. Not much in bloom then but pleasant temps for sure!
