St. Charles Ave. - New Orleans
 

Could anyone tell me if you know of any good restaurants around the hotel " Maison St. Charles Quality Inn and Suites"? Or any info. on the hotel itself? Thanks.

I've stayed at a B&B right by this hotel, but only during the Mardi Gras so any feedback I could give you would not be fair. However there is everything from fast food (Wendy's, Popeye's) to finer dining very close by. I think Emeril has a restaurant across the street.

The hotel looks to be nice and on the newer side. Everytime I walked by during Mardi Gras the people coming in and out seemed to mostly be families or well-to-do people so they must charge pretty steep rates.

It's very easy access right off 90 and the trolley line runs right in front. About 3 or 4 blocks up is a good breakfast place called (appropriately) the Trolley Stop Cafe.

The only downside is if you go a block or two north, the neighborhood goes downhill real fast.

Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro is near there. So is Bravo's. Both are very good, although not really "New Orleans" food. I enjoy them both. Kung's Dynasty is also fairly close...good Chinese. As dweebe mentioned, Emeril's Delmonico is right there.

There's a casual BBQ place, Voodoo BBQ, two blocks away. Really good barbecue with tasty side items. Cheap, too.

Avoid the St. Charles Tavern: horrible food every time.

Have to agree with Dweebe re: St. Charles Tavern. Blech! :-(

The Lee Circle restaurant at Hotel Le Cirque is just 3-4 blocks from your hotel. It's beautiful and the food is great. I'd take a cab ($3-4) because you do have to travel UNDER the highway. Not the best walk, to be sure, but the food at Lee Circle is worth it!!

Could you tell me what type of food they serve at Lee Circle restaurant at Hotel Le Cirque and about how much the price range is?

To answer your question abotu Lee Circle - it's owned by the same aowner as Clancy's which I think is one of the best restaurants in town. Check Zagat.com for more accurate info, but I'd say it's sort of upscale Creole/continental food, and the prices per entree will generally be upwards of $24. Delmonico's is also Creole and also expensive, but very good. I'd recommend either for lunch - much less expensive, and most of the menu is the same.

VooDoo barbeque is good and not very expensive.

Ditto Lee Circle restaurant and Delmonico which is the Emeril Lagasse place one post referred to.
I say AVOID Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro like the plague - it is locally owned but is nothing more than a chain serving shabby imitations of local food. Go for the real thing!
From St. Charles you have wide access via streetcar or taxi to a wide variety of places - Windsor Court Hotel's Grill Room (top dollar), Palace Cafe on Canal St., Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, Restaurant August, Emeril's (his original restaurant), 56 Degrees, Johnny Ryan's, Singh Ha (Thai food), Horinoya (sushi), Bon Ton, Uglesich's for po-boys and other local everyday food for lunch, Mother's Po-Boys on Poydras (but you will always wait in a line). It's also easy to get into the French Quarter from there, which has more good restaurants than you can manage in any one trip.

As a local offtoafrica had the best advice, except I would skip Delmonico. It is just a place to be seen...very expensive, and the food is so so. Better than Emiral's but that is NOT a compliment. If you want to try an Emiral restaurant I would have to say NOLA is the best of the three.

That area is a tough call, the Trolley Stop is pretty good, but it is a lunch counter type of place. I'm usually ther at 3:00am after the clubs!

If your in that area I would take the trolley down to Camillias Grill! Now there is a NO experience!

Mark, admit i have only eaten at Delmonico once in the last year but it was wonderful. I LOVE Emeril's. Maybe we have just had different experiences. Glad you liked my other recommendations...

Your probably right, the experiences I have had and others it seems at best inconsistant. But with the prices they charge why take a chance?

August is my favorite right now! But then again, compared to the rest of the world, NO restaurants are heads and shoulders above the rest.
