St. Augustine hotel recommendations

My DH and I are going to St. Augustine for our 1st anniversary. Can anyone recommend a hotel or B&B that's under $100/night?

What time of year? Under $100 and charming or luxurious would be very difficult. There are a number of chain hotels on Ponce DeLeon that are around $100, and some b&bs (possibly Casa Solana) in that range.

Anyone else out there have some ideas? Orlando Vic?

We're going in May. I don't need luxurious - just clean and safe.

rubygirl, if you're going mid-week and can bump up the budget another $20 or so, the St. George Inn is excellent.

Have you tried posting your question on tripadvisor? They have an active St. Augustine forum, and they may have some suggestions for you.

Good luck - St. Augustine is a very nice destination in May.

Hi rubygirl!

I just got back yesterday from a trip to Argentina so I am a little late in jumping into this conversation.

Here is a very good suggestion for a B&B within the historic district and definitely with an easy walk (1-2 blocks) to many points of interest, restaurants and shops:

Old City House <http://www.oldcityhouse.com/>

They have excellent meals (breakfasts and dinners) and are steps from the Lightner Museum, Cafe Alcazar and Old St. Augustine Village <http://www.old-staug-village.com/>.

My wife and I have owned a condo in St. Augustine for 16 years and are very familiar with the local area. We have personally stayed here and feel that this is a good choice. Trust me on this!

You can verify their room prices on their web site. By going in May, you can get "Off-Peak Season" rates.

Good luck, and have fun.

There is a really good deal on the best hotel in St. Augustine, Casa Monica for $119/night; it is usually much more expensive. http://hotels.travelzoo.com/florida-hotels/295851

OK, this isn't a b & b, not luxurious but clean; it is right on the river, 1 blk from the old town and lots of restaurants (Harry's is a must), and a lot cheaper than the other places: Monterey Inn Bayfront
16 Avenida Menendez
St Augustine, FL 32084

Also, we stayed there a couple of times and felt very safe. It's within walking distance from everything we wanted to see. Here's the website: www.themontereyinn.com/
