St. Augustine holiday lights

Are the holiday lights in St. Augustine, FL worth waiting for until dark?....we will be staying at Jacksonville and spending the day in St. Augustine. We have a 7:30 tour of lights scheduled on Jekyll Island that evening as well.

Thanks.

I was thinking of going there tonight. If we do, I will post here and let you know :)
When will you be here?

Tandoori_Girl Dec 5th, 2004 06:23 AM

Scarlett, I love the view of St. Augustine from across the bridge. I want to be there right now! I'm so jealous that you're so close. It's just far enough away from Tampa to make it a long driving trip, just close enough to make the cost of the flight and a rental car seem not worth it. Don't they do some boat parades with lots of lights on the boats, as they do in many Florida cities this time of year? That would be very pretty ((#))

I promise a Full Trip report tomorrow LOL
TG, that is the way we feel about Tampa! I want to go visit and we have to make plans for the pup sitter etc..a big deal and not too very far away!
I will go along A1A so we will come in across the bridge :D

The Jacksonville light parade was canceled. I was down for Thanksgiving and they were suppose to have it on Saturday the 27th but it rained. Bummer!

Hi Amie, and Tandoori Girl!
We just got back from St Augustine where we saw the Night of Lights and had dinner and walked around.
It was 82 degrees here today, but the evening had a soft breeze and it was perfect to walk the little back alleys and just wander in and out of the shops as it got dark.
The shops mostly close by 5:00 or 6:00 so there were very few people, which made it really nice for strolling.
The bridge, the buildings, ALL of the buildings, the carriages that the horses pull, several sail boats and almost every tree in sight was covered in tiny white lights. (They say 2 million in all.)
It was very charming.
We had dinner at Harrys, with a view of the water and the lit up sail boats, but don't eat there! We were unaware of it being 1- a chain restaurant. 2- a bad chain restaurant.
But the view was good and the wine was OK.
Having not seen the Jekyll Island lights, I can't compare them, but this has loads of charm.
Hope this helps with your decision~

Scarlett, thanks for the tease. Wish I could have been you. It sounds really pretty. Next time go to A1A Ale House for dinner. I thought it was great when I went and I've heard it's still good.

Scarlett, enjoyed your report (as usual). Next time you go to St. Augustine there are two great restaurants there worth a visit. Le Parisienne and a place in the basement of the huge building just west of the Casa Monica. The restaurant is actually in the swimming pool (not a typo, it really is IN the swimming pool)

cmcfong Dec 8th, 2004 03:22 AM

Oh, one other restaurant in St. Augustine which I like (I am a vegetarian, but even my carnivorous friends like it, too) is the Manatee Cafe.

Scarlett Dec 8th, 2004 06:13 AM

Hi!
Le Parisienne was closed, Mon& Tues:(
We have lunch in that cafe, we really like it and the shop with all those old magazines and posters a couple of doors away.
Thanks TG for that restaurant, I had gotten a reco for that place before we moved here and forgot all about it!
I did find a CD that I liked in some shop that sold seashells and such, and music :) It is called Cafe de Flore, love it!

Scarlett Dec 8th, 2004 06:16 AM

That is the Lightner Museum and it is the Alcazar Cafe :D

cmcfong Dec 11th, 2004 04:18 AM

Thanks, Scarlett, for the memory boost! I love the Alcazar.
