No recommendations for lunch in Daytona here, but the Top of Daytona is open from 4-9 week days (Closed Mondays) and open til 10 on weekends. It's located on the top floor of a circular condo building right on the beach. Go early to take advantage of their earlybird specials and watch the sun set as you dine.

The Alcazar sounds like a great idea. I'm hoping for dinner at the Creekside this weekend. Saving the Reef for a Sunday brunch. Then we'll venture more downtown. Is it a good guess that we should eat out on weeknights and not wait for the weekend?

If you are going to Creekside Dinery, a weekday might be better. This is because they do not accept reservations and weekends are probably busier.

The Reef is one place where you will want reservations, probably even for Sunday Brunch, even though I've only eaten dinner there. Try to ask for a window table.

We will try to Creekside Thursday night, and let you know. Thanks so much.

Creekside is closed for renovations until next week. On to plan 2.

Had dinner at Gypsy Cab last night. It was very good. Good service and good food.

Last night's dinner was at the Old City Inn - very good. As a bonus - they have parking!

wopel-
You wouldn't think a B&B would have dinners, especially very good dinners, but they do. Great location too and free parking like you said. Glad you enjoyed it!

Update: Went to Creekside Dinery for dinner - wonderful! Also went to Gypsy Cab for lunch - lots to eat and also great!

I am proud of you. You are eating your way through St. Augustine. Save some for the rest of us!

I'm doing it for the greater good!

We went to Cortesses on San Marco. Very cute bar - great (but expensive) martinis. Nice restaurant with good food.

Thanks for all the great tips here. We just got back from a couple days in St. Augustine and we loved it! We had a lunch at the Cafe Alacazar, dinner at the Reefs (reservations and window seats : )
and went to the Lightner Museum, Anastasia State Park, the old fort and of course, the lighthouse. We had a lunch in the Old City House courtyard (very pleasant) before we left.

One of our favorite finds was the Denoel French Pastry place. It was like being transported to Paris. Wow!! If I get a chance, I'll post a mini-trip report. We weren't there long, but I had jotted down some of the suggestions from this thread before we went. Thank you for sharing!

carolv - can you tell me where that pastry shop was. I'm going to St augustine in a couple of weeks - and having serious withdrawal as I often go to Paris for my March vacation. Sounds like that pastry shop may help make me feel better about this trip.

carolv Feb 26th, 2008 05:35 PM

Isabel, you won't be disappointed in the pastries or the charming atmosphere of Denoel. I just googled it and it's on 212 Charlotte St. tel 904-829-3974 (it shows a map which you might find helpful). I also liked the interesting neighborhood it was in - I believe Charlotte St is parallel to Aviles St. The hours may change by March, but they didn't open until 11 (and we had to smell the croissants cooking at 8am!) We ended up having a croissant at the Bunnery, which was nothing to write home about.

I understand France withdrawal, however, I hope you enjoy St. Augustine too. It really is a unique place. Enjoy!
