Spy Museum

Going for a weekend in D.C. with my 7 year old son. Is the Spy Museum worthwhile?

He might be a little young - with only a weekend, I would concentrate on other (free) things to do.

I agree.

Despite its relatively high admission price, I loved the Spy Museum, but only because I am fascinated by the history and technology of spies. I don't see how a seven year old would share my passion. There are dozens of places that are for more suitable for your son, that also happen to be FREE.

Yes, the Spy Museum is worthwhile. A 7 year old would get something out of it, I believe.

Another interesting place along those lines (but definitely over the head of a 7 year old) is the NSA Cryptology Museum. It's free and located north of Wash DC, right off the B-W Parkway at NSA HQ in Ft. Meade.

My kids weren't that impressed with the Spy Museum. If you've already done the major Smithsonian museums then I would recommend it, but if he hasn't been to the Air & Space and Natural History museum I would suggest those first.

My wife and I visited the Spy Museum only after exausting all other things to see and do. I was moderatly impressed only because I grew up in the cold war era. I doubt that a seven year old would be able to appreciate it to the level that warrants the admission cost.

I think that museum is more geared towards older children -- those with longer attention spans, high-level reading skills, and some sense of history. I'd probably wait until a kid was at least 12.

But I really enjoyed the museum - it's not just a small child's museum.
