Spring Training with Mom

My husband and I have been to spring training two years running. Fun trips to Vero beach, Clearwater, Tampa and Orlando.

This spring my mother (she's under 50) wants to go with me. I would love some recommendations for hotels near the Disney World of Sports for a long weekend. We just wanna watch a few baseball games (we are Atlanta fans), loaf around the pool, take naps and go out fo a nice dinner. I want to spend around $150...for at least a 1 bedroom suite. I have a reservation at the Holiday Inn Family Suite resort for $138 for a residential suite. I am a little worried about the resort being not very adult friendly. Any opinions?

Does anyone know about transportation to the Disney World of Sports? The hotel says their shuttles go to the parks...but not to the World of Sports. Does anyone know if I can take a shuttle to a Disney park...then hop a Disney bus to the World of Sports?

If you're there during the school year, I wouldn't worry about being overwhelmed by families on vacation! I'd also expect the horrible traffic would be lessened. You may want to rent a car to ease getting around.

We have stayed at this resort with kids. It is very nice and well located for the sports complex. The hotel has a section of rooms, and I believe a pool, designated for adults. Be sure and request a room in that area if you want to cut down on the commotion. Unless you stay at the very high-end resorts, i.e. Villas at Grand Cypress, you're going to find that most hotels in the area cater to families. IMO, you'll be the happiest at this hotel since it does try to segregate parties with children. As far as catching the shuttle, it's going to be difficult unless you're a resort guest. I don't find parking at the ball park difficult if you get there at least an hour early. We're Braves fans also...do you know where we can find a schedule for all their spring training games?

Thanks s!

We got our tickets on TicketMaster yesterday. We were able to get great seats for the Braves/Yankees game in Orlando. We also got tickets when the Braves play the Devil Rays in St. Pete and the Yankees in Tampa. Both of those are a little closer to home.
Let's hope the Braves have a better ending to their 2001 season!

You are welcome. I forgot to purchase tickets until about an hour after the went on sale. Uggh. The only Yankees tix left were on the lawn. Mom and I picked a couple of other games. Should be a ton of fun. And I never think a season where your team makes the playoffs is a bad season. I just remember when Atlanta would lose 90-100 games EVERY season. Have fun this season. The pitchers and catchers report in about a month! Happy trails.

Do a search on this forum for Spring Training 2001 under the Florida heading. I asked a question about this several months ago and received some very helpful replies from many different folks. Unfortunately, my plans (actually my friend's plans) have changed and I won't be able to go to Spring Training this year.

Good luck!
