Spring Training in Arizona
I am having baseball wihdrawals already and am starting to plan a trip to Spring Training in Arizona. I could use all the help I can get. I live in San Diego, so I will be driving, but beyond that I have no clue. I need an idea as to hotel locations with proximity to ballparks, shopping and of course great food.
Thanks for your help! |
In Tempe or Tucson?
|
Scottsdale, actually. Maybe Peoria. that area
|
Ah. Hopefully one of the Phoenix-area Fodorites will be along shortly.

The Scottsdale stadium is in downtown scottsdale. Several hotels there, a few within short walking distance. Phoenix Stadium and Tempe Stadium are only a few miles away and Mesa is not that far.
The west side stadiums are 30-45 minutes away from Scottsdale. In scottsdale, two traditional places for baseball fans are Don and Charlies and The Pink Pony (it was going to close - I don't know if it has). For Mexican food in downtown Scottsdale, try Los Olivos. It has been the place for Mexican food in Scottsdale since the '50's. I used to see Barry Goldwater there. |
Hi SueZ,
Are you interested in certain teams or just the idea of baseball? Do you know there is Fall Ball in the Phoenix area? What I understand is after the majors have their draft, the young guys go to Arizona and train and play for about three weeks. It may have started by now and finishes around Nov. 20, I think. I think the games are in Scottsdale, Mesa, Peoria and Surprise. Don't have a web address, but go to major league baseball's site and it might link to the Fall Ball. |
GJLinda is referring to the Arizona Fall League, which has started by now. Its a mix of minor leaguers and rookies.

Thanks all. Appreciate the help
