spring skiing near Los Angeles
 

Is there a ski resort close to Los Angeles? I'm headed there to meet my daughter during her spring break and she's only gone once before when she was just a kid. I'd like to take lessons and have a really great time on her vacation. My wife and I used to ski twice a year up in Lake Tahoe (North & South) until we started having kids. Hopefully the area has good instructors, rentals and decent lodging for two. Mahalo!

There are a couple ski areas in Big Bear. Bear Mountain is one (www.bearmtn.com) and I believe the other area is called Snow Summitt. Check out www.rsn.com and search in California. You should find all relevent info there. Good luck and Have fun!

Hi: <BR> <BR>I recommend Snow Summit. Due to the unreliable nature of the weather, they have incredible snowmaking capacity. So, if Mother Nature has not delivered, they still offer a pretty good experience for a "local" place. They have instructors, rentals, etc. There are also many decent places to stay in nearby Big Bear Lake. Good luck.

In addition to Big Bear, there's also skiing in the Wrightwood area (located up in the mountains above Upland). While it's quite a drive, Mammoth would offer the best skiing in the lower part of California.

My family all ski and we like Snow Summit in Big Bear best for local skiing. It is two hours or less from LA. Their website is snowsummit.com. And by the way, it is snowing there right now! <BR> <BR>My kids and I learned to ski there and think the instructors are pretty good. Lift tickets aren't as expensive as Mammoth and Tahoe. There are lots of places to stay. I believe the website might have info on that.

thanks everyone for all of your feedback. i guess 2 to 2 1/2 hours drive is not that bad considering the 5 hours + we used to drive from San Francisco to ski Lake Tahoe. again, mahalo for your info..

Big Bear is really the closest that has all the services you might want - good restaurants, good lodging. My husband and I own/run a bed and breakfast up here and the snow has been great this year!!
