Spring Jacket In San Diego

Will be a tourist in SoCal this week and next. At what tempreture (or time of day), in the area between San Diego an LA, should I consider wearing long trousers and a spring jacket?

I guess this is stating the obvious here, but at the temperature (or time of day) when you feel cold.

Seriously! :)

You might be able to develop an average temperature by surveying a lot of people, but the individual answers will vary widely.

My husband and I were both born and raised in Michigan, and have very different tolerances to cold. I might wear a light jacket at 60, and he might not till 50-55. My grandmother, born and raised in the south and living most of her life in southern Florida, would wear a jacket around 70-75 and be cold without it.

You can check your forecast at www.weather.com among other places. Currently San Diego is calling for temps in the 60s during the day, 50s at night, for the next several days.

Of course, it's also quite dependent on other factors such as:

wind
sunshine
rain
how much walking you'll be doing (vs. standing or sitting)

Hard to say. Most San Diego residents are wearing long pants and perhaps short-sleeved shirts, but with a sweat shirt or jacket close by. On the other hand, at a track meet last Saturday when we were pretty chilly, a visiting coach from North Dakota was wearing shorts. It's really all relative to what you're used to. If you're coming from somewhere that still has snow, then you may think it's toasty here. We have seen video of spring breakers on the beach in swimsuits, sunbathing. Brrrr!

I'm going there next week and I'm completely confused about what to pack! Are spring colors out in force out there?

SD is a really casual place and people wear whatever the weather calls for. There aren't any rules about white before Memorial Day or anything like that.

Bring long pants, light jacket that is rain repellant, sweater, short sleeved shirts - layer up so you can adjust to sunshine, rain, clouds, etc.
