spring break in vegas, where to stay?
 

Hi all,
We're taking suggestions for hotels to stay at during spring break 08. We have two daughters, 15 & 18, so it will be all about the pool!

When are you traveling? Feb and March is not pool weather in Las Vegas, April is iffy. Also contact the hotel directly to see if the pool is open.

Typically, the MB's pools open mid-March. They have one pool that is open year-round. Weather in LV in March, according the the following website, is quite good for swimming. The pools are heated, of course.

Okay, temps will be in the mid 50's to high 60's at that time. Unpredictable month. Not sure if the pools will be open. If the pool is open I guess MB is the best. If not, I'd say somewhere like Caesar's so the kids can walk around the forum shops and are across the street from the Venetian. It's a long walk from the Mandalay bay to the most popular "four corners" of the strip. There will be plenty of drunk college kids for March madness, just a heads up.

Okay I am bored and live in Las Vegas so I called the hotel and they said one smaller heated pool open year round, the lazy river pool does not open until Memorial Day. Hope this helps.

I have seen highs in Vegas in low 60's to low 80's in March. Stay in touch with MB, hopefully most of their pools are open by the time of your March visit.

No problemo:) Have stayed there a few times, it's very nice but the Venetian is my favorite. Great restaurants at the MB, Venetian, Caesar's, and the Mirage, Bellagio.

Oops, left out the Wynn too but it is very pricey.

I called the MB before I posted and they told me mid-March. Go figure. 80's is not unusual for Mid-March in Las Vegas. Travelinwifey - what gives? I've been in Las Vegas for decades - not a competition...just friendly advice from somebody knowledgeable (moi). Peace out.

I meant visiting Las Vegas...family owns a home there but we choose to primarily live on the coast.

Last year I was there in March - definately warm enough for swimming - the year before there again in March (for competition cheer from hell) and it SNOWED!

IMO - I like the Mirage hotel. I have stayed at other hotels but still ended up going back to the Mirage. The number one reason: is the pool. It's very exotic with lots of palm trees. The walk from the guest's elevator is very close to the pool entrance. There is a restaurant in the pool area or you can step out to the coffee shop right outside the entrance. The Beattles lounge next to the guest's elevator is very hip.

As for shopping: The Venetian is right across the street, Caesar Place to the right, Fashion Island mall is to the left. With young teenage daughters, the shops in Caesar Palace and Fashion Island would be more suitable for them.

Well, good luck with your selection. But either way, you can't go wrong spending Spring Break in Vegas. Maybe I will run into your family out in the pool at the Mirage.

TTess, with all due respect I was not competing with you, I don't care as this is only an internet message board:). This is a website for people to share opinions and not everyone has to agree. While I'm glad that travelers have been here in March and weather has been in the 80's it is not the norm. If you look at www.weather.com averages are between 47 and 69 for mid May. I do live in Las Vegas and think I have a pretty good idea about the weather, again, that it is unpredictible.

To Jlkids, the reason I mentioned the whole weather thing is because if the weather is cooler the MB is a bit of a distance from the other "main" casinos, not really walking distance to travel in between the Venetian, Caesar's and such. If the two girls like shopping and people watching there is more action at the other part of the strip. Each casino has it's own attraction, there is a dolphin habitat and Sigfried and Roy's secret Garden at the Mirage, the Venetain has Madame Tussad's wax museum. The Mandalay Bay has an impressive shark reef with gigantic sea turtles. Whatever you are happier with:)

Why would you want to take you daughters (that age) to Vegas ? Others are right, you won't be spending any time in the pool + you'll be arriving in the middle of March Madness, so everything will be double the price. Lots of drunken guys, losing $$ on basketball games to ogle your daughters.

Well SAnParis, the reason why I would go to Vegas with my daughters would be to hang out and spend time together. Thinking it would be a bit warmer, we was expecting to be by the pool. We have no desire whatsoever to go to Mexico and all their tourism entails. Not really sure where is the place to go that there isn't guys "to ogle" my daughters. Guess we could always stay home!

You might also look into resorts around Phoenix/Scottsdale. There are great hotels there with wonderful pools, which would definitely fit the bill for relaxing time together! It would probably be a bit warmer as well. Of course, if you are set on LV, ignore my suggestion (smile).

I was thinking Phoenix/ Scottsdale or Tucson also. If Vegas is a definate for you, I'd consider off strip (South Point or Red Rock) or a Henderson property. And then realize the pools may not be open. I have seen Vegas pools open in March, and then have the weather "snap" to windy/ cool and the pool closes.

In addition to Phoenix or Scottsdale, Santa Fe could be something to consider.

Agree that March can be iffy weather-wise in Vegas...but, also don't think there's anything wrong with taking 15- and 18-year-old girls there. They will LOVE all the shopping and sightseeing, and they are old enough to appreciate the shows, spas, and/or fine dining out there as well. I think they would probably get a bigger kick out of it than Arizona or Santa Fe. (I like both AZ and NM myself, but I'm in my mid-30s.)

It's actually a good time of year to go to Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire.

I agree that for your needs and expectations Vegas is not a good place to go. The weather will probably not be pool weather and it's going to be crazy with March Madness. The hotel prices will be insane. Also, it's just not a great destination for a family get together. There are much better places. I recommend San Diego, Miami, New Orleans.

This would be our 5th trip to Vegas with the family, we have always found plenty to keep us busy, without even spending much money on entertainment or arcades and my hubby and I aren't even gamblers. We've gone horseback riding in Red Rock Canyon every time we've been in Vegas and have loved it. Done Hoover Dam, personally I think once is enough for now anyhow. I appreciate the info about the weather, for some reason I just thought it was always quite warm, my mistake. We've been in San Antonio during the womens final four and survived that eye opening experience.

We are not set on Las Vegas however and will look in to more info on Phoenix, Scottsdale or Santa Fe. I've never really thought of Miami as being "family friendly" so that will take more investigation as well.

I'm sure I will post asking for advice about those places and look forward to suggestions.
