Spring break??
 

Where can a family go that is warm, inexpensive, and not packed with teenagers.
We love the beach but do not want to fight the teens. We are on a strict budget, but like nice hotels and don't camp. I would need to driveable from Indy and would only be for 5 to 7 nights.

When do you mean Spring Break? The week before Easter? The week after Easter? Some random week in March?

Sorry, I should have specified. Our spring break is March 27-April 4th.

Since most spring breakers tend to hit the beach, you'd be safe with an "inland" vacation such as a large city or how about someplace in the mountains? The possibilities are endless. I would stay away from most beaches and large attractions, such as Disney.

Many teens are with their families...College teens: 18-19 are not.
Is that what you mean by teens?

According to your dates you will have a very difficult time in a warm destination, strict budget, avoiding teens AND driving from Indy...and you do not want to camp...

I hesitate to suggest this, but you sound like a nice person and I want to give you a chance for a really unique visit. Drive down to St. Pete Beach and go to the little community of Pass-a-Grille Beach, which is a narrow strip of land facing the Gulf. There are lots of mom-and-pop hotels there, the beach is great, and it isn't the destination of the rowdy Spring Break hordes. It's a small historic village that has now been declared a national historic area--something like a combination of Key West and Carmel, but more reasonable in cost. One place you might want to stay, facing the beach with kitchenettes in some rooms, is called Inn on the Beach. I don't know the phone number, but it would be in the St. Petersburg directory, area code 727. Since I live here, I can heartily recommend it as a family type area with lots of beach time, good restaurants, and some neat shops. Good luck.

Treasure Island or St. Pete Beach -- if you can get a spot. Lots of people coming to FL to get away from winter chill. don't delay.
