Spring Break 2008

Beginning to think about where to go for spring break next year. It will be March 28-April 6. This is a week later than we usually have. I know Easter is early next year [March 23] and I am thinking about places we haven't tried before. This will also be the first time in over 20 years that it is just the two of us.

We usually do FL, mostly on the Gulf coast and WDW. Have also done two cruises to the western Caribbean. Once we went skiing in CO and another time we visited San Diego/San Francisco.

Wondering about northern AZ or possibly National Parks in Utah at that time of year.
Ideas please!

Would Hawaii be in your budget? It would be an ideal destination.

Have been to Hawaii with DH twice. We prefer to plan at least two weeks for that destination, just too far from MI.

We did the Utah national parks and Sedona this past spring break, which for us was the same time of year you are planning to go next year.

We had great weather - it was a bit warmer than I understand is normal. (I read that normal high temps are in the 60s and we had weather in the 70s). I have been to this area in the summer and it is HOT. It was so much nicer going in early April!

Topping for Sunday contributor's.

We really enjoyed the Playa Del Carmen area of Mexico. Secrets Capri was a nice resort.

jallard,
what kind of activities are in the area? DH and I like to snorkle and kayak.

Hi,
PDC is about 45 minutes south of Cancun. We were there in February 2006. I will look for my trip report and attach it.
There is tons to do. We went to Xcaret which is a ecopark and we snorkeled there. I have heard a lot about snorkeling in the area and you are near Cozumel (ferry service from PDC) which I hear has excellent dving and snorkeling.
We rally enjoyed the beach at the resort and in PDC. PDC has great restaurants and bars and is fun to walk around at night. Secrets has car service there every evening. If you go on the Mexico board under Latin American the people are very helpful at planning. Also, I'm sure there is kayaking around.

If I didn't do it right - just go under my name and find "Playa Del Carmen and Secrets Trip Report"

Thanks jallard.

We visited Cozumel twice while on cruises. Not sure we want to head to PDC.

How about the Sunday evening crowd, any ideas?

Charleston, South Carolina

SuzieTrue Apr 30th, 2007 01:37 PM

I hadn't thought about that choice. Usually looking for someplace where I can be outside in shorts and t-shirt. Is it usually warm enough in early April for that in Charleston?

Felschurch Apr 30th, 2007 01:50 PM

Key West?

SuzieTrue May 1st, 2007 03:05 AM

Did Key West BC [before children]. I'll keep that on the list.

Shorts, snorkling, kayaking---This place has none of those but we had a great vacation there. Good houses to rent, fab food, nice people, reasonable costs, arts, crafts, antiques, daytrips, only slightly difficult to get to.
San Miguel de Allende Mex. Fly into Leon Mex. Arrange ahead of time for transport to San Miguel
There is a very active Tripadvisor forum--go there and lurk for awhile!!

cmcfong May 1st, 2007 03:36 AM

Suzie, as a rule it will be warm enough in late March or April to enjoy the area of Charleston in shorts.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. Keep them coming.
