Splendid China Still Open?

Anyone kow if this park is still open? I heard that it was closing. Thanks.

Sam Feb 5th, 2001 04:03 PM

In which city might this place be located?

Jill Feb 5th, 2001 05:26 PM

Orlando, FL, of all places.

joan Feb 5th, 2001 05:42 PM

Long gone.

Patrick Feb 6th, 2001 04:55 AM

And good riddance! Another example of someone to trying to capitalize on the tourist boom of Orlando. Build a big nothing, charge a fortune to get in, and hope they will come. They didn't come and rightfully so!

Splendid China in Orlando is still open. It has never closed down, nor has it pared down its operation in anyway. I just called them and they are as open as ever.
Check any search engine.
Patrick might need to check his sources, or put down that doobie.

Patrick Feb 6th, 2001 09:52 AM

No, it's not a matter of checking my sources. I was taking the previous posts at face value that it is closed and was glad if it was. I went only once not long after it opened and thought it was one of the worst rip-offs and biggest yawns I'd ever seen. I do know that it went into receivership at least once, possibly twice, and has had financial woes from day one, so would not be surprised if it were closed, but if you say it is open so be it. If you want to waste a day, by all means go.

Ok, I'll bite, What is/was the Splendid China?

rob Feb 7th, 2001 05:39 AM

s.china is basically a mini-china....mini replica of the great wall...etc. w/ chinese performers and i'm assuming chinese food.....and i haven't heard anything in the local media about it closing. a new attraction, "the holy-land", did open yesterday...too quite a bit of protest...but i think adult admission is only $12...what a deal!!!!

Patrick Feb 7th, 2001 09:18 AM

Hadn't heard about the Holy Land. The mind runs rampant! It has a motel with no available rooms, you have to sleep in the manger out back. Kids age 14 are given rocks to throw at all passers-by. The baby changing room is called the "wailing wall". Menus at the fast food restaurant are designed to look like the Dead Sea scrolls. Can't wait to plunk down my 12 bucks!

OOOh, Patrick, you sweet talker you! I do so enjoy your banal repartee. xoxoxo

About 3 years ago I took my mother there just for the evening performance. The acrobats and other performers gave a similar show to one I saw in hotel in Beijing, but less elaborate than one in Shanghai. That part is much the same as the "warm-up" shows outside the China film in Epcot. We quite enjoyed it.

We did not go through the miniature China part of the park. The Chinese have similar parks in China--miniature Great Wall, etc., so it's not just an idea they put in Florida.
