Spiderman shutting
For those following the epic history of the Broadway show Spiderman, the producers have announced that they are shutting down tonight for an extended period for a complete overhaul of the show. They are saying previews will restart on May 12th after the overhaul (the only thing that it seems sure will remain is the score) with an official opening in mid June.
But there are rumors that we have really seen the last of Spidey. |
Wow, the whole production of the show is a book or play waiting to be written!
|
A couple interesting sidelights:
*Discount offers are currently available starting with the first performance when the show reopens May 12. *According to a recent NY Times article, the show is earning very little of its investment back despite grossing an average of $1.3 million a week. |
The staging may be so elaborate that it simply can't be profitable-evenwith all eats sold at high prices. (I don't know the financial details - but it doesn't seem promising.)

Some things are just not meant to be!
|
This is not new news. This shutting down was announced nearly a month ago. It was paired with the announcement of new people being brought in and Julie Taymor being replaced as director.
