Spending time on Kauai

We will be traveling to Kauai in July, staying in condos there. We have tentatively booked accomodations on the North Shore and in the Poipu area, but I am trying to determine how to split our time between the various areas on the island - we want to snorkel and swim, hike and sightsee, and also relax. We have 10 days to spend... how would you divide up the condo stays? More time at a North Shore condo or at a Poipu condo? (Both offer discounts for longer stays, but we mainly want to look at how we will be spending our time, rather than the price). Any advice would be appreciated!

Something nice about being in one place. I would spend the entire 10 days on the North Shore. Any month outside of July and August I would probably have a different plan.

Too many snorkel and hiking spots are at you finger tips.

If you must switch. I would consider a 2 day stay in poipu week on North Shore. Contact Kokee National Park for hiking trails this area is good for many trails.

Before you decide on how many days at each location get The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook and spend some time deciding what activities and sights you'd like to see and do. This book isn't like other boring guidebooks. It's entertaining and informative and very honest. It divides the island into sections so you'd know how much time to take for each area you're interested in.

Bottom line htough, you're in Kauai you'll have a great time no matter where you stay!!!!

Alooohaaaaa Cathy,
Ditto on the Ultimate. We got a lot of tips from it on our first trip over in '89. That and a book by Lenore Horowitz. I think it was called "The Kauai, Hawaii Guide".
Nice that you are able to split the island. We usually just stay on the CocoCoast. About equal drive times to all points.

Here are few other sites that may help you:
http://www.kauaimenu.com/
http://www.discoveringhawaii.com/Is_Kauai/_Kauai-TOC.html
http://www.kauaiworld.com/
Many mahalos,
Kal
239 mo'.

thanks Kal.....just made an reservation at the Beachhouse for August!!! Hotel already sold out so I thought I would just call to see how far in advance I should book. I am worried I may be sharing the Hyatt with some kind of convention, in any event when I called they booked me.
Good links everybody.

99 more days
