Special Restaurant on Kauai

Hi, Will be travelling with my Mom and Aunt to Kauai later this month. It is my Mom's birthday while we were over there and I would like to take her somewhere special for her birthday dinner. We are staying at the Sheraton at Poipu. Would like it to be close so we don't have too far to drive back. Can anyone recommend of Shells at the Sheraton is good. Seems to have excellent views.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Paula, We were just over there the past Dec/Jan. and stayed in the Poipu area.

The Sheraton was so-so food. Great setting if you eat out on the porch or eat in the bar area and watch a sunset.

There are 3 great restaurants within 3 miles from the Sheraton. The best for a sunset view is The Beach House. When you get a reservation, ask for a "sunset table".

The others are Roy's and Keoki's across Poipu rd. in the Poipu Shopping Village. Keoiki's has the open, Polynesian decor while Roy's is a basic open restaurant. Great food at both.
Mahalo and early Happy B-day to your mom.
Kal

Hi,

I was in Kauai ten years ago and had a chance to visit a restaurant across the street from the Coco Palms Resort (closed after Iniki). It is on the beach with patio area. The restaurant's structure is kind of circular. Does that restaurant still exist and if so what is its name?

Thanks,
Cathy
hi paula, we have been to kauai the last 3 years and can recommend many places. on our last trip, we treated ourselves to dinner at "Tidepools" at the Hyatt, it's on Poipu. Go early and watch the good singers in the lobby bar area with a view of sun/sea. The Beach House is also good. Unfortunately, we felt that Roy's has gone downhill in the last year or so, not on our list any longer.

Ditto on The Beachhouse. Definitely make a reservation several days ahead of time or else you will be shutout for sunset.
I liked both the Beach House and Tidepools, but I give the edge to Tidepools for its ambience. Very romantic with an open-air type setting...thatched roofs...streams with fish...very Hawaiiana...

Stayed at the Sheraton in Poipu last year and loved it. The breakfast buffet at Shells is quite good but I didn't care for the dinner I had there (it was their seafood buffet). The Beach House is really a special atmosphere and the food is very good. Roy's is great and Keoki's is fun but I'd pick the Beach House more for the atmosphere. I didn't make it to Tidepools so can't compare to that one. Have fun!

You may want to try Piatti's. Very good food, walking distance from the Sheraton. Italian and fresh fish. Great coconut shrimp appetizers. You may want to have drinks at the Hyatt Regency-close car trip--lovely grounds, evening entertainment. Great lava flows.

Just returned from Kaui last week. Loved Tidepools at the Hyatt (expensive), The Beach House (ask for a table by the window) and Keoki's (moderate, great tropical atmosphere with waterfalls). All are right there in the Poipu area. Have fun!
