Special Occasion in Santa Fe

Hi All. My parents will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this May and we have decided on a long weekend in Santa Fe, a place they both love but have not been for 40 years.
I do not know Santa Fe and would very much appreciate any advice on the most charming hotel in town. We want to make this really special event, so we won't worry about a budget. Can anyone recommend a very charming hotel and also a great restaurant that will accomodate 15 for a special dinner? I have in mind a beautiful outdoor courtyard with twinkling lights, soft music...you get the picture. Any advice?

Bishops Lodge just a little north of the Plaza is lovely.

There has been lots of info on here lately about Santa Fe. To find it, type Santa Fe hotels, Santa Fe restaurants or just Santa Fe to find old threads.

Also, click on the DESITINATIONS link at the top of the page to read Fodors city guide on Santa Fe. Very accurate and good ideas.

Hope this helps...

If budget isn't a consideration, I think I'd pick Inn of Five Graces: http://www.fivegraces.com/. Because budget has always been a consideration, I've never stayed there, but, talk about "charming"... And location is perfect.

When we were there last fall, we stayed at Inn on the Alameda: http://www.innonthealameda.com/. It's also very nice, but location isn't quite as good. Still, only a five minute walk from the Plaza. If you choose to stay there, book a casita room for your parents.

I've seen exactly the restaurant you describe on E. Palace Ave., just a block or two from the Plaza, but can't remember the name. Anyone else? Outdoor courtyard, twinkling lights....

If they've not been in 40 years, your parents may not recognize much. Santa Fe has changed a lot, and not all for the better. I hope they can still find those reasons that originally attracted them to the town.

The restaurant on E Palace with the courtyard is La Casa Sena http://lacasasena.com/; The Compound just off Canyon Road also has courtyards--http://www.compoundrestaurant.com/CompoundPrivateDine.html.

Marcia, if you're still looking, you might consider La Fonda. There is a great presidential suite on the top floor. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, and a wonderful terrace to entertain. You might want to park yourself or your parents there, so you have a great spot for the group to meet.

Santacafe has a beautiful courtyard. We enjoyed a friend's 10th wedding anniversary there, with about 30 folks.

I think the restaurant on Palace is La Casa Sena. It's lovely, though I'd opt for Santacafe. Or, if outdoor courtyard isn't mandatory, I'd choose Geronimo.

Ooh, enjoy, annieladd
