Special eastern shore towns
 

Looking for a unique or special town on Maryland's eastern shore to spend two days, walking, visiting, and seeing the sights.

Have visited and loved St Michaels, Oxford, Annapolis and am looking now to expand the horizon.

Any help is appreciated.

On the Upper Eastern Shore in Maryland there is Chestertown and nearby Rock Hall as well as the smaller towns down the way such as Church Hill, etc. If you go to Virginia's Eastern Shore there is Chincoteague(which could include Assateague) Wachapreague, Cape Charles, etc. I doubt any of these towns would be a two day visit but combining several would give you a real feel for the area and there are some real hidden small treasures in all of them. If you go to each county's website..Kent, Queen Anne's and the others you can find some of the smaller but worthwhile things to see and do. Just be aware that most eastern shore towns shut down Saturdays at noontime and their small stores are generally not open on Sundays. If you're really willing to get eastern shore down-and-dirty, try Crisfield, and do an overnight at Ewell.

The former is losing its flavor as a waterman's tosn, but there's still enough left (I think) to give a sense of its importance to the harvest of the Bay.

Ewell, on Smith Island, is of another time and place. May it always remain so....

I would spend the weekend in Ocean City ESPEC
IALLY off season. The hotel rates are way cheaper and the weather is great. The restaurants are fabulous. You can spend the day walking on the beach or riding bikes on the boards. You can go to the commercial harbor, shop, check out the Lifesaving Museum at the Inlet. You can drive 10 minutes and hit the small town of Berlin where you can walk back in time and check out antique stores. I love Ocean City in the off season. Make sure you get some Thrashers Fries!!!

Smith Island - I remember reading of it years ago. Is it still the throwback in language and history?

I also wondered about Chesapeake City - it looks inviting sitting there on the canal. Any thoughts.

Smith Island's much the same, though slowly losing its population (and in some cases, its land....) They do still have mailboat/tourist runs, though.
