speaking of Savannah..

My husband and I are heading to Savannah and ? for a week at the end of this month, Feb. We visited Charleston a couple of years ago, so want to explore somewhere new. I'm planning on 4 nights in Savannah, then 3 nights somewhere else, which is my question. We could go towards So Carolina and go to Hilton Head and Kiawah. We would bike, walk on beach, etc. - what else is there? Or we could head south along the coast and explore in the other direction. In a tour book I saw places mentioned: Darien, St Mary's, Jekyll Island and so forth. Someone who knows the area, which would you recommend? We enjoy drive/exploring, with walking and being in new places, but don't want to spend all our time in the car. Would It be interesting to explore the Georgia coast in Feb.? Or better to head to So Carolina coast? Thanks for your advice and thoughts!!

About a 3 hour drive from Savannah, St. Augustine FL might be worth considering. The old part is quite walkable and beautifully situated on the Matanzas Inlet, the history and architecture is a fascinating contrast to Savannah & Charleston and there is beach as well.

About an hour south is Jekyll Island in GA and Amelia Island in FL. We love the town Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island.

thank you for the suggestions! Would you recommend a single spot to base for 3 nights while exploring the area with day trips?

We really like the historic Florida House Inn in downtown Fernandina beach.
