Speaking of Philly. . .
 

We are going this fall and want to spend most of our time in the Old Town and the historical park area. Best hotel deal seems to be Sheraton Society Hill, which is 4 blocks from the park. Is that a reasonable walking distance, and is the hotel pleasant? Can anyone rec. any restaurants close by for lunch/dinner? Thanks.

I have never stayed at the Sheraton Society Hill, but form ehat I've heard it's a nice plcce. It is quite close to Old City and the Historic Area.

Old City has lots of excellent restaurants. Spasso is a great Italian place on Front and Chestnut Streets. Fork, Continental, Buddakan, and Philadelphia Fish and Company are also good, among others.

I haven't stayed at the Sheraton, but have had brunch there and it was lovely.
I also recommend eating at Fork and Philadelphia Fish Company.
I haven't been down to the new Constitution Center, but it sounds wonderful.

I would grab that deal if I were you, since I have stayed there and it's perfectly fine. You can't beat the location, and it's a safe and pretty area. Besides Old City and the usual historic sites, you can walk to Penn's Landing, South Street, clubs, restaurants, etc.

For something different, check out a movie at the Ritz, or grab a bite to eat at some of the lesser visited places by tourists, such as Marrakesh (morrocan food), Azafran (Cuban), or Beau Monde (crepes). In Old City, also check out Continental, Cuba Libre, Novelty, Chloe, or Django (reservations a must).

Thanks for the suggestions.One more question, has anyone stayed at the Thomas Bond House B&B lately? That is another option, and closer to the Park, but the room available is almost double the rate at the Sheraton (although it comes w/breakfast). I'm interested in staying in an authentic colonial building, but some of the reviews on this site panned the place. Does anyone know????

I provided a link to the section of the tripadvisor.com website that discusses the Thomas Bond House. I have not stayed there, so I can't commend on it. It is located in Old City which is convenient to restaurants, shops, and the Historic Area.
