Sparling wine
I love it! Napa or Sonoma? Which vineyards are a must?
|
Sparkling - I really should preview my messages.

We loved the tour and sit-down tasting at Schramsberg. Specialize in sparkling wines. The caves there are really interesting to see. Must book ahead.
|
We stopped by Korbel on River Road in the Russian River Valley. Didn't tour their cellars as we arrived near the end of the day. Very friendly, free tasting, and they gave us cards to taste the Kendell-Jackson Reserve wines at their wine center. KJ also has a wine shop in Healdsburg.
Wineroad.com and visitwineroad.com are two great links for Northwest Sonoma area. ((b)) |
Domaine Chandon, in Yountville I believe, has an excellent tour, great restaurant, and some pretty tasty wines as well.
|
Domaine Carneros offers a great tour. They make some great sparking wines and some really great pinots. The grounds are beautiful.
|
How about Paso Robles or Santa Ynez? Any noteable sparkling wines in these regions?
Thanks! |
One of the best makers of domestic sparklers is Roederer Estate (affiliated with the french label). They've changed their location since I last visited, but I believe the new one is near Healdsburg, in Sonoma County.

Roederer is indeed wonderful- I have 2 very special bottles in the cellar that are for New Year's Eve. However, it is in Anderson Valley, Mendocino County. Gloria Ferrer has nice sparkling wines and incrdible views over a huge terrace. After tasting, go across to Viansa and nibble your way through the shop on freebies.

Mumms Napa Valley is excellent.
