Spa Resorts in Washington
 

Looking for recommendations for the best spa resorts in Washington, preferrably Western Washington (though Central Washington would be okay, too) to celebrate a semi-milestone birthday in August. Spa resort should cater mostly to adults as it will be a couples getaway. Couples are mid- to late-30s and would like to partake in activities in addition to spa pampering (which is mostly for the ladies anyway), but the activities may be had outside the resort in the surrounding vicinity.

The stay will likely only be 3 days, 2 nights.

Thoughts, suggestions or recommendations?

I've been to two that I would recommend:

Salish Lodge (at Snoqualamie Falls) - we spent most of our time hiking, dining and going to the spa.

Willows Lodge (in the wine country of Woodinville), very near Seattle, think golf, dining (Herb Farm is right there for a celebratory 9 course meal), wine tasting at the local wineries (many of whom are nationally recognized) and enjoy a beer at Red Hook brewery, bike riding on Gilman trail and if that is not enough a trip into Seattle.

This is on the Eastlake shores of LAke Washington, newer and modern and is perfect for upscale couples.... You would have to drive over one of the Lake Washington bridges (so avoid commute times) to downtown Seattle locations but closer than Woodinville....you could still do Woodinville as a day trip..

Another vote for the Willows. Last time there, they really went above and beyond for a special circumstance, without me asking. You can have champagne and strawberries delivered to your pedicure room if you like. The Herbfarm is good, but there is also the Barking Frog which is very good as well. Location to the wineries and such is a bonus.

I just realized you mentioned August. Take a look at the concert calendar at Chateau St. Michelle. Those are a lot of fun and would be a perfect compliment to a stay at the Willows.

Not Washington but not far: the Allison Inn and Spa near Portland in the Willamette Valley is fantastic especially if you enjoy wine tasting.

Thanks all for the replies. I've heard of a few of the suggested resorts (Snoqualmie Lodge, Alderbrook, Skamania) and look forward to researching the others -- especially the Willows! Woodinville wine-country in August sounds mighty nice...

A friend of mine suggested the Tulalip Resort/Casino. Thoughts?

I live less than 10 minutes from the Allison that NWWanderer mentioned and I agree, it is a beautiful place. I frequent the spa and have since they opened.

As for Tulalip, I don't care for it at all. Casino's in general creep me out. I have had a nice dinner there, but I would not go back.

After further research, Willows and Allison Inn are at the top of the list -- and Tulalip is OUT. :-)

A coworker suggested Rosario Resort on Orcas Island, but I read mixed reviews. HOWEVER, it is under new management. Anyone have any recent experiences there -- or on Orcas? We've been to Friday Harbor, but never Orcas. We were thinking might split the stay between Willows and Rosario...

I personally don't think Rosario is even close to the Willows or the Allison.

We did not have a good experience with Rosario (under Rock Resorts management) but we love Orcas. I still think Willows Lodge is an excellent choice and recently made reservations there for a weekend getaway. I've heard wonderful things about the Allison but have not made it there yet.

Not sure if this will help you decide or not. The Willows is in a nice setting. The Allison's property itself is nice, but to get to it you go through an old residential area, a neighborhood firehouse, and then it sits in an industrial area. That is because it was built on land that was owned by the same people who own one of the largest companies in town, a manufacturing facility. Decent wineries are about 10-15 minutes away, so not far at all. But overall, the town of Newberg is a pit. I live in an adjacent town so am very familiar with it. That said, DH stays in Woodinville (very close to where the Willows is) during the week and we much prefer that area over Newberg.

Well, that answers that. The Willows it is! It's also closer to home, so that is a bonus.
