Spa/Inn for Girls Getaway

Does anyone have any recommendations for a girls getaway weekend in September within 2 hours of NY. The ladies need to get away to a spa for some relaxation and pampering. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Is that a two hour flight or drive?

There's a website escapemaker.com that has listings for weekend getaways from NYC. Also the website spafinder.com should help. There a also a few previous threads here if you do a text search. I know there's a place in CT. & I think the same people own one in Lennox Mass. (more than 2 hr drive though) but can't remember names.

The spa in CT is the Norwich in Norwich. But I now remember a friend went & said everyone staying there was going to the casinos. Don't know if that interests you.

Canyon Ranch in Lenox Mass. In the Berkshire Mountains, it is one of the finest spas in the US.

Just got back from girl's trip to Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires and we all LOVED it (been to CR in Tucson and it is awesome too). If you decide on Canyon Ranch, keep in mind that it is really a spa for people who embrace a healthy lifestyle....lots of exercise, yummy (healthy) food along with pampering. There really is no drinking, smoking, rich foods, shopping, etc. I thought I would miss my glass(es) of wine, but I did not at all. Also, Canyon Ranch is very expensive....if you are not going there to take advantage of all their wellness offerings, it really is not worth it. Of all the places I've gone with girlfriends over the last 15 years, it is probably everyone's favorite.... there is no place like it.

Thanks for clarifying Canyon Ranch. I really didn't say much about its spa. This is what spas used to be about. Most "spas" today and there is a proliferation of them are profit centers for resorts. You don't get a very high standard of treatment in them either as there are just not enough trained estheticians and therapists to give a high level of service.

Canyon Ranch was a great spa when spas were not cool or trendy. LMF

I didn't realize shopping was not part of a healthy lifestyle. #o

But seriously, isn't it possible to shop & dine outside the CR spa if you want?

It is absolutely possible to go out and eat, drink and shop (there are about 8-10 tiny shops in Lenox and some great restaurants). But it is sort of a waste to go to Canyon Ranch and go into town to eat and drink. Canyon Ranch is all inclusive. I'm just saying if those things are important to you as far as a spa/resort, CR may not be the best place for you.

Canyon Ranch is VERY HIGH END. You could go in another direction - out to Montauk Point on LI, to Gurney's...or go the more yoga/New Age health spa route and hit Krupalu (also in the Berkshire's), New Age Health Spa (in the Catskill Mountains). Have fun.

Heard about a plcae in Skaneateles (sp?) in Finger Lakes called Mirbeau. Alos, Pennsylvania has one called Nemacolin I think.
