Spa experienc
Often travel on my own, need to pamper myself. Anyone have a wonderful spa experience? USA, Mexico, Europe? Willing to spend the bucks if worth it,
Thanks

I have had exquisite experiences at Ixtapan de le Sal in Ixtapan and Mision del Sol in Cuernavaca, outside of Mexico D.F. Great treatments and pampering rivaling the best US spas for about 1/4 - 1/2 the price.

If money is no object or concern, go with the best--either the original Canyon Ranch in Tucson, AZ, or the Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires in Massachusetts.

February Travel+Leisure has a feature on spas in the Caribbean that might be helpful.

"The Broadmoor" in Colorado Springs is wonderful! Great spa - great pool - tennis, golf, horseback riding, beautiful!! Or , LaCosta in California - check it out!

If you enjoy hiking, Skylonda in Woodside, Ca (outside San Francisco) is great. You hike in the morning and then have spa treatments in the afternoon. The food is good and not too strictly spa-like.
Lake Austin in Texas is good. Classes and activities during the day with guest speakers (I heard Liz Carpenter while there and she was delightful). Spa treatments are good and available until 9 at night I believe. Food is good with a southwestern flavor.
I have only been to the Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires, not the original one. It was awesome but I was glad I went by myself as there is so much to do that trying to coordinate or hook up with another person would have slowed me down. It is definetly the most extensive spa I have been to. It also has the most balanced population of male and female guests. It is a little more expensive but is worth it for an intense spa experience (if that's not a contradiction!).
I actually love all three of these. The only spa I would not recommend is The Palms in Palm Springs ( very out of date).

I'm convinced that the best deal is the Hotel Spa Ixtapan in Mexico. It's about a 90 minute drive from Mexico City without traffic but Continental Airlines now has service into Toluca, which is only 40 minutes away. The prices include all spa services, fitness classes, and meals and simply can't be beat - for a single it's just over $1000/week. This is a great escape and because they cater to Americans, using English isn't a problem.
