spa

Any recommendations for a girls spa getaway. We are planning to go in February and would hope for decent weather. We live in Colorado and are willing to fly or drive.

There are spas everywhere. How far are you willing to travel? Do you have a budget?

The ladies in our family did a spa week in Sedona and had a great time.

Lots of high end resorts in the Caribbean or Hawaii have excellent spa facilities.

Help us help you, give us more info about your likes, dislikes, how long a trip, what do you mean by "decent" weather?????

A perfect place would be The Royal Palms Resort and Spa in Scottsdale/Phoenix. It is wonderful, small resort with an absolutely to die for spa. We have been there several times and are heading there again later this month. They have a world class restaurant, a great pool, beautiful grounds and the staff treats you like royalty. You wouldn't even have to leave the grounds, it is complete and great for destressing.

You could fly on Southwest for a reasonable fare, too.

Here are some pictures I took:

You might want to look at http://www.spafinder.com/ Spas not only vary by cost, but also by focus. If your interest is luxury and treatments your choice would be significantly different from someone whose focus is exercise and weight loss.
Whereever you go, have fun!

Allegiant Airlines flies from 4 airports in Colorado to Las Vegas. http://www.allegiantair.com/aaIndex.php
Las Vegas has a lot more to offer than just spas.
I doubt that even Southwest will beat Allegiant's fares.
Allegiant also flies to Phoenix-Mesa if you wanted to go to Arizona.

"<i>I doubt that even Southwest will beat Allegiant's fares. </i>"

Allegiant's fares are usually quite a bit higher than Southwest's since they charge fees for <i>everything</i> - seat selection, priority boarding, soft drinks and snacks, $17 to book on their website or by phone (and that's per person per segment), checked bags, and even gate checking(!)

They are not a 'low cost' airline in <i>real life

Forbes Travel Guide ranks many of the better spas, resorts and restaurants. Usually the spas are at resorts. You can find their spa rankings here: http://www.startle.com/drilldown/business/Spa ... there are a small # of 5* spas, including the Broadmoor in Colorado (closest to you). Most of the 5*'s will be at expensive resorts like the Broadmoor.

Since you want good weather in the winter I'm assuming you want some place warm and fairly close, which implies California or Arizona or Nevada? California and Vegas each has four 5* spas listed. I've worked out at the fitness centers at the Encore (Vegas) and Grand del Mar (San Diego) close to the spas, for sure these are nice resorts. For sure not cheap ...

Prices are a lot more friendly at the four star properties. There are four listed in Colorado, though I'm guessing you want something warmer? Arizona has seven 4* spas listed (and great weather in February), the only one I'm familiar with is the Aji since my wife goes there 2-3 times a year (usually as a gift from me) and we dine at the 5* restaurant on that property often.

I said fare. I pack one carry on bag that will fit under the seat in front of me and pack 4 string cheese sticks. I'll share a $2 can of soda with my wife. I'll take any seat they want to assign me in the cattle car.

DEN - PHX $88 each way, all in as of now. Could drop with their famous sales. Expect sales before Christmas. Sign up for DING! on southwest.com for great fares.

Really are at the very beginning of planning so don't necessary have a budget (probably not 5 star but 4 star rates would be okay). Decent weather would mean a decent chance of sun and 50's and up would be fine. Not interested in Hawaii or Caribbean because we would only do 3-4 days. I checked on a place in Oregon and they said usually the weather is windy and rainy, that doesn' appeal to me. Trust me, I know we are not guaranteed good weather but certainly don't need to go some place where the odds are that the weather will be rainy and windy. Arizona (Sedona, Phoenix, Scottsdale), New Mexico, and Southern California are all appealing.

Spas here in NM would most likely be in Albuquerque, Santa Fe or Taos, none of which will meet your weather requirements. Perfect in June - mid November, but February will be cold and good chance of snow.

RoamsAround Dec 3rd, 2011 03:12 PM

Check out spas in Southern California, Arizona, mid to South Texas and Florida - generally mild weather in those places during February and you can probably reach any of them in under 3 hours of flying time.

tomfuller: I didn't say anyone needed to use all of those "services" (and that was only a few of the possible fees) - but everyone <i>does</i> need to book -- $17 pp. And if they need to gate check that carry on . . $35 a pop. Plus most of the fees are "opt outs", not "I agree's" so if you don't notice the opt out check box you are charged. Give me sweet/simple Southwest any time. But whatever floats your boat.

tidy: There are some lovely spas in the Napa/Sonoma area easily reached from OAK/SFO/SMF. The weather might or might not be great but the food and such can't be beat really.
