Souvenir from Maine
I am going on my first trip out east to Maine. I would like to know what souvenir I should not leave without. I will be visiting Boothbay Harbor. Thanks!!

Old lobster buoys? Whirly gig? I brought back a hand painted pottery spoon rest from a shop in Boothbay Harbor...Actually it was made at Salt Marsh Pottery on Cape Cod, but no one knows but me. It looks very New Englandy and I use it daily..so am always reminded of a great but cold weekend in Boothbay Harbor one October.

I got a brass lobster measurer (used by lobstermen to determine legal size lobsters). I think I got it at the 'oceanarium" mear Acardia Nat'l Park

I have had a lot of compliments on some rather pretty blueberry design pottery from Maine. There is a line of handmade soaps-Saltscapes, I think that are a nice little gift and won't break. Also for little gifts, Nervous Nellies Jams and Jellies.

South of Camden there is a prison store. We stopped just to see and they had the most beautiful ships. I bought one and had a terrible time shipping it so be aware of size but I treasure it so very much and it was easily 1/4 the price I would pay on the west coast (even with the shipping). Anybody know where this store is located? I just remember it was on our drive the day we went to Camden???

I can't remember where it's located either, but we went too. It had some pretty neat stuff, but some not so neat as well. It may be listed in one of the Fodor's guides. I know we made a point of finding it.

Found it in my Fodor's guide. It's the Maine State Prison store, Rte 1, Thomaston (east side of the road) open daily.

Whoopie pies! the best little pastry snack you ever will eat! You can get them in almost any bakery or grocery.

Also, the gift shops sell " Clean Maine Air in a can", a neat gag gift.

Seashells of course!
Driftwood, smooth stones, fine white sand.
