Southwestern Virginia Ideas?

Heading to Damascus VA to hike Mount Rogers in a few weeks. Coming from Louisiana. Going to make it about a 4-5 day trip. Looking for ideas on what to do after we hike mount rogers. Any other cool places to hike? Any activities that we should go? Any places to check out? Any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bluegrass music? There is a ton of it around and many local festivals but you will have to google for your dates.

Other sections of AT?

Are you climbers? Go north to New River Gorge or south to Linville (NC) Gorge.

There is a fair amount of kayaking in the area as well, but it might be a bit cool.

Bicycle the Virginia Creeper Trail. A number of outfitters will rent you a bike and take you to the top of the hill. enjoy the descent back into Damascus.

I agree with sallytakemyhand--the Creeper trail is lovely. And even if you are tired from your hike, you'd have an easy ride if you do just the downhill of it!
