First time to Hawaii - recommended vacation rentals?

We are traveling to Hawaii for the first time - three families - and looking for a house to rent? Any recommendations on where to stay or look?

How many people are there in three families?

You want to rent one home?

Do you want to be in Honolulu or outside the city?

Getting familiar with the different areas of the island will help you in your search.

The Lanikai/Wailua Beach area has some large homes as vacation rentals.

The Kahala area also has larger homes.

There are condos available on the north shore at Turtle Bay.

What is your budget?

There will be 11 (5 kids) of us total, and we are on a budget. We don't need to be next to the beach, a short drive would be fine. One home would be preferable, in or near Honolulu.

You will find few 'budget' homes. Look for some condos within one complex.

Wekewoody, did you mean Lanikai/Kailua? That is one area I would look in.

On VRBO you can easily search by the number of people /bedrooms. There is a pretty wide range of prices, so I think you may find one unit that suits you.

You say Kailua, I say Wailua, let's call the whole thing off.

Yes, that is what I meant.

you might also consider a couple of condos in the same complex where you can get together but not be overcrowded. with 11 people, you would need a very large house. I can recommend Makehuena on Kauai. Luxury poipu.com is a lovely 2 bedroom very large condo (2400 s feet) with a huge long lanai that sits right on the ocean and the condo complex itself is large and has lots of units. VRBO is a good place to start.

Booked off of VRBO with a place called Manoa Hideaway. Has anyone had any experience with them?
