Southwest Resorts - Spring 2010

Hello Fodorites!

I just had a quick question regarding resorts around the Southwest around Easter in 2010. My family of 4 is looking for a nice, relaxing resort in the Southwest Area; I've found El Monte Sagrado Resort in Taos, NM, and the Ritz Dove Mountain near Tucson.

Does anyone have a recommendation of Taos vs. Tucson? Or a better resort somewhere between Texas and Arizona? I'm flexible as to temperatures - anywhere warmer than Pittsburgh that time of year would be great.

Thanks!

What kind of activities are you looking for? Do you want to hike? Ski? Taos around Easter [early April in 2010]could still be cool/cold and you will not be able to hang around an outdoor pool. There could even be snow!

How old are the kids and what will they like to do?

Tucson will be warmer for sure, maybe even pool weather.

Hard to tell you which is better unless you give us a bit more info.

We'll basically just want to relax. A pool could be nice....but so could walking around a town/observing the scenery.

The kids are 15 and 17 and are just fine doing whatever...most likely they'll just want to sleep.

The only really info I'm looking for is a) how nice the resort is and b)how nice/friendly the town is - i.e. are there good restaurants? what is the surrounding landscape like?

Our past few spring breaks have been sightseeing mixed in with bit of relaxing. This year we really just want to chill.

Sorry for being vague. I haven't posted in a while :).

El Monte is really pretty, and within walking distance of the Plaza in Taos. There are several restaurants in Taos. The landscape is pretty, think mountains, pine trees etc.

Tucson is desert, will be way less in the way of greenery more brown-ery. Lots of good restaurants, maybe a bit more to do in the way of activities. I don't know the hotel.
