Given what you want to see, I don't know why you are staying in the places you have chosen? Why not stay in the parks? St. George is a bit of a haul for Bryce and/or Zion, and Cornville is really a long way from Grand Canyon.

That said, unless you are going to do a lot of hiking, seven days is a bit much for Zion and Bryce at that time of year and way too much for GC. There is so much to see in southern Utah and northern Arizona that I would encourage you to do a bit of research here and elsewhere and come back with more information on what you plan to do on your trip.

At the risk of sounding insulting, have you done any research other than come up with some destinations.

Are you looking at 2011 or 2012?

Can I assume you want to spend a few day in Las vegas, then stay in St George to visit both Zion and Bryce Canyon and then Cornville to visit the Grand Canyon?

As emalloy wrote the places you've selected are a long way to the destination sights.

And you've allowed way too much time for them.

This part of the country is very spread out. I would rethink lodging.

Thanks for your replies and you are right! We did it backwards! What are your favorites in the areas we are staying? Things to do- eat- things to see...?!

Obviously for Las Vegas stay on the strip. So many choices there, can't help you pin that one down.

For Zion you can stay either at the lodge in the park, or in Springville, which is a cute little town right at the edge of the park with plenty of lodging options- Desert Pearl at the top, but nothing really to stay away from.

If you really want to stay in St George it is possible to visit Zion from there (about an hour drive), but I would not use that as a base for seeing Bryce- it takes about 3 hrs to get to Bryce from St George, so you'd be on the road about 6 hrs of the day....not an ideal way to visit one of the best National Parks in the system. For Bryce, either the lodge in the park or the Ruby's Complex of hotels right outside the park.

There are two rims of Grand Canyon. Assuming you want to visit the South Rim try to get lodging in the park, or if not that then in nearby Tusayan.

Cornville might be alright for visiting Sedona, which you haven't mentioned but which is a great place to visit as well. But then I'd probably want to stay in Sedona rather than Cornville.

Not counting Las Vegas you seem to have about 2 weeks.

You can do a lot in that time.

You mentioned food. what are you interests? How active? Hiking?

I'm asking these things because not all sights are by the road.

There are 5 national parks in southern utah. In addition there are some very worthy other sights along the way.

fillinrose,

You need to look at the mileage between the places you are staying at and the destinations you want to go to. If you stay in St. George to visit the national parks you will spend to much time driving back and forth.

St. George to Zion is 40 miles one way. Not to bad if you are only going there and only going once. The driving back and forth can be a drag if you want to spend two or more days.

There has recently been a land slide on Hwy 14 with no estimate when it will reopen. You will have to check to see if it's open when you go. If it's still closed you will have to either go though Zion or go up to Hwy 20 to get from St. George to Bryce. You are looking at between 130 - 150 miles and 2 1/2 hours one way. This pretty much rules out sunrises and maybe even sunsets at Bryce. The sunsets before 7 PM right now, so daylight hours are more limited in Oct. and worse in Nov.

The services at the N. Rim close in mid Oct. I believe the road is still open but there was recently a snow storm so check to make sure the road is still open.

Scenic Hwy 12 and Capitol Reef National park would be a place to visit only if you were willing to move lodging because it's just to far from St. George.

Snow Canyon State Park is just a few miles north of St. George and worth a visit.

Near Cornville is Montezuma Castle National Monument and Sedona. Not really ideal for the South Rim of the Grand Canyon at 140 miles (one way) but the closest location you've listed.

You might notice a common theme in all your replies...it's you would be much better off changing locations and staying closer to the places you want to visit. Trust us....we know what we are talking about!
