Southwest Florida Destination Wedding Help needed
My fiancé and I are looking to do a destination wedding in Naples, Sanibel or Marco Island. Does anyone have any suggestions pointers etc. We will be having approx. 50 guests and are looking to do it anywhere from October of this year to Jan. 2014. We will be going down to this area in May for 3 days so we want to see everything we need to see to make a decision. We appreciate anything anyone can offer. Thank you.

From the standpoint of a guest I would recommend Naples. We went there last November for a wedding and found that there was alot to do there. The beach, restaurants and shopping make it a nice destination. Many of your guests will add a few days to the trip in addition to what they spend attending the wedding events. Sanibel is nice but "quiet". Don't know much about Marco.

Marco is similar to sanibel in that it is an island (not too crowded), and it tends to be dead by 9? But the similarities end there. It's beaches have major high rise condominiums on the beach whereas sanibel limits their 'high' risers to 3 stories. Aside from attending the main event, your guest would have more options first in Naples, then sanibel then Marco. I view sanibel as more "tourist" friendly, then Marco, with numerous restaurants and shopping plazas. Tons of bike paths and the Ding Darling refuge. Naples would give you a more 'upscale' small city vibe, whereas sanibel would be small & quaint. I would vote for sanibel. Good luck and congratulations!!!

I agree with the other posts. Naples is nice and upscale and lots to do. Spaniel is beautiful, quiet, remote, and very laid back. Marco is kind of a little strip mall, concrete jungle which happens to have a lovely beach.

It is also a PIA to get to Marco from the airport.
It used to be a PIA to get to Sanibel from the airport, but I have heard that it is better.
It was always a PIA to get from Captiva to Sanibel because of low speed limits (35) and serious enforcement on a very boring road that invites speeding.
Naples.

Captiva to sanibel? You have to go thou Sanibel to get to Captiva. I find it a lovely drive. We have stayed in sanibel the past three years during their 'busy ' season, and we've never encontered a problem. Most traffic has been on the main intersection into sanibel once you cross the bridge. And there is always a policeman man patrolling that intersection. Most traffic I've encountered is the line at pinocchiosnice cream!!!

I mentioned the endless ride from Captiva to because it could be tempting to schedule a wedding out there at the South Seas Resort because it has lots and lots of accommodation. Not a great idea, in my view. Sanibel is wonderful if you don't need glam.

I think Marco Island is beautiful! I love the Marriott Resort there, it would be ideal for a wedding ceremony. Also, if your looknig for a place to have a bachlor/ette party, the Key West Express runs out of Marco Island seasonally. It's a fun and fast way to visit Key West for a day or even over night. Congrats and keep us informed on your decision!

Neo, lol.
I agree with the consensus: Naples, Sanibel and Marco, in that order. I don't think you can go that wrong with any of these locations, though, so do your homework--maybe there are significant cost savings that can help you decide. Enjoy your scouting trip!

OMG, Raymond1, are you talking about those rat infested tents you set up in Chicago? What on earth does that have to do with this subject?
Nice "illegal" advertisement by the way. Did it occur to you to read the user agreement when you signed up to post here?

Go on to Captiva and have a "in the sticks at the beach" wedding!
Seriously, a little, if you are actually going to check out Sanibel take a little more time and go on to Captiva even if you don't get married there.

I second the La Playa in Naples suggestion! My good friend was married there and it was perfect - relaxed and fun but still very elegant. Before that trip I didn't know we had such gorgeous beaches in the US.
