Southwest Airlines Cancellation Fee

I just read in one the messages posted on this site that stated there is no cancellation fee with Southwest Airlines. You get a credit for a year. Is that true? I looked up their site and I can't find that anywhere. If that is true, that is very good to know.

It is absolutely true. It is very simple to use, as well. There are two places to enter the code for tickets you did not use, and the credit is applied. You can apply more than one, as well, if you are purchasing a new ticket that is more expensive.

I think you have to complete the trip within a year, not just re-book.

Thanks Jim for the info

Well, not exactly. There is no cancellation fee, but keep in mind: the year starts on the day you made the reservation.

For example, you booked today for your February 2009 flight, then cancelled that flight. You must use the money, meaning complete another flight by December 15, 2009.

Not just reschedule, but complete the flight.

As for applying more then one credit: Southwest allowed me to apply only 2 credits to one RT flight.

I probably need to explain more about those credits. Let's say, I made reservation for February for $59 each way. 2 weeks later, the price went down by $10 each way. So I changed my schedule to lower price. I have $20 credit for a year.

The same happened to another flight. More credit. Just keep the track of the dates and credits :) Check the website often, you can let others use your unused credits!

KEEP THE CANCELLED FLIGHT CONFIRMATION NUMBER.

With Southwest that's the six letters & numbers code.

Your credit is listed under that old confirmation number, so when you book your new flight and want to use the credit, you have to give them the OLD confirmation number.
