SouthStreet Seaport worth a visit?
Family with kids 11, 14, 18 spending 6 days in New York, and plan to take self-guided walking tours of Greenwich, SoHo, Lower East Side, Chinatown, Staten Island Ferry & Statue of Liverty, etc. I've heard mixed opinions on whether or not the South Street Seaport is a great place to visit, or just a tourist-trap kind of area. Any opinions?

My friends and I like to go to NYC every few years and see shows and take our walking tours around the city. We always go to South Street Seaport just because...it's really just a mall area, but there's some neat stuff to see there. Oh, yes, we also have taken the boat cruise from near there. We like it better than the Circle Line because you can get in airconditioning...You may find a discount coupon in a mag at your hotel. Others should be able to give you more specifics about SSS, but I'd say go...
Hi JM-I agree with the previous post ... SSS is a pleasant way to spend the day-there's a small memorial to the Titanic, the mall, lots of places to eat, and the Fulton Fish Market. Also nearby, is the Financial District, including the Stock Exchange (which you can tour) and Wall St. I also vote to 'go' !!

Have fun in NYC

No doubt a good idea to visit SSS. The views of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn are great. The Brooklyn Bridge is also very close by. There's many other points of interest nearby so why not stop by for a visit! Enjoy the Big Apple!

We loved South Street Seaport. The street performers are wonderful and the shopping is terrific - the kids will find all kinds of neat stuff I've never seen anywhere else.
