Southport NC???

We will be staying in Kure beach next week and I've read a little about Southport, is it a place worth visiting?

Southport is a neat little town w/an awesome Main St. I'd go during the week rather than the weekend as there is only one way in & one way out, it can get busy/crowded. Have lunch at the Provision Co. & don't forget to stop for some ice cream. www.southport-nc.com

Wannabe is right on the money. Southport is a great little town. Lots of shops, nice waterfront, great town for walking too, as everything is pretty much on one main street. Another good restaurant is The Pharmacy (but it's not waterfront as Provision Co. is).

Also, consider the fun option of taking the free car ferry from Fort Fisher (just south of where you're staying) to Southport. Fort Fisher also has an aquarium.

The recommendations are right on - it's a lovely little town with personality. Taking the ferry is a fun option.

FYI--the ferry is not free, ($5) but it is fun. Midweek is definetely better than the weekend when you'll have to wait for ferry. Here are the schedules:

Thanks for the correction TrvlMaven,
it's been a few years since we took the ferry--I thought it was free then, but at least the expense is minimal.
