Southhwest Florida R&R

My wife and I will be visiting relatives in North Miami in early July after which we'd like to spend a few days relaxing on the west coast. Can you recommend a good location for (a) sunbathing on the beach, (b) swimming/snorkeling in the Gulf, and (c) perhaps fishing off some pier? We're looking for something between Marco and St.`Petersburg. Thank you.

Try the island of Captiva. It's gorgeous. The Tween Waters Hotel & Marina has all three things you're looking for. Situated on a narrow part of the island, it faces both the Gulf and the Intercoastal waterway. They have cottages or regular rooms. Get a cottage, they're adorable. They also have boat rentals and fishing galore. also, if your taste is more upscale, check out the south Seas Plantation. Expensive, exclusive, and they occupy the whole north end of the island.
