Southernmost House-Key West
 

Does anyone have any feedback on this b&b? We'll be there this wkend. I'd posted something last week, but it was during Thanksgiving, so thought I'd repost..Thanks

I'm confused. I know there is a Southernmost Hotel on Duval but I don't know about a Southernmost House. Up top by 'Search this Forum', type in Southernmost House and hit enter and see what information comes up.

No. It's Southernmost House--b&b with 13 rooms. Seems it's not too well known. I believe it was a mansion which was converted:

I visited this place a few years ago but did not visit. They had just finished the renovations. It is stunning. If you can afford it, go for it. It is at the south end of Duval St., in a quieter area, with the southern stretch of beach just past the property.

All the action on Duval St. is within walking distance, but far enough away to make the Southernmost House B&B a lovely, quiet retreat. Enjoy!

I meant to say that I visited it, but we did not STAY there ... oops!

I've never been inside, but the outside is lovely and the location is very nice on the Atlantic. The house used to be nearly invisible from the street because it had huge lush foliage, but unfortunately that was all mowed down during the hurricane. So to me, it looks a little naked now!

As I recall, they used to offer tours of the house, but I'm not sure if they still do. Sadly, I can't remember the few reviews I've read of the Southernmost House, but I think they were positive. Please post a review when you return home!

If it the one at the end of Duval on the right, it is beautiful but it appears they are still working on it to some degree. I would certainly ask. (Just returned yesterday BTW).

We stayed at the Southernmost Hotel - which I think is right next to the B&B. It's awesome - VERY nice people, very accomodating, nice swimming pools, beach access, & w/in walking distance to all the bars/shops. You can also rent scooters there, which was a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend it.

The Southernmost House was re-furbished several years ago and it is very difficult to get a room there. People tend to book well in advance. But for $5.00 / person you can use their "beach" area which overlooks the ocean, and the pool and IIRC you get one drink at the bar.

The Southernmost resorts include the Dewey House and La Mer and I think the Southernmost Hotel which is across Duval on South Street.

There must be someone with a sense of humor - farther west on South, towards the Southernmost Point, someone has put a brass plate in a brick wall that reads "Southernmost southernmost House."

Also, what do you mean by they seem to be doing some work on the Southermost?

AngelaS - You're thinking of an additional place, the Southernmost Point Guest House, which is across Duval from the Southernmost House. That's the 4th place claiming the title of southernmost!

The Southernmost House and the Southernmost on the Beach are both on the water, the other two aren't.

I'll try & post a trip report tomorrow but there was still a lot of ladders & equipment laying about outside (if we're talking about the same property). I don't spend a lot of time at that end of Duval but took my daughter to the butterfly conservatory, which is well worth a visit. It is across Duval from the place Peter describes & there are maybe half a dozen parking meters there...I saw the plate that Peter mentioned, that is pretty funny...Peter, how was your stay ?

we'll be leaving early tomorrow AM, so if you have any quick tips, that'd be great! hoping the ladders and equipment aren't too much to take :(

Hi, Jubileefd. I hope you see this message before you leave. We stayed there in August of 04. We loved it!! Although we stayed in one of the cabanas right behind the pool area because we went with our then 8 year-old son. All the rooms in the B & B are upstairs and they are all beautifully done. We had friends that stayed in the "turret" - it was a really pretty room with a gorgeous view. They have a continental breakfast in the gift shop that is included in the price of your room. The staff is wonderful there - you will have a great time. I would go back there in a second!!

well we just got back, and I got engaged at the southernmost house (on the balcony overlooking the ocean)! So my opinion is probably tainted, but I loved it. Very nice to be on the quiet side of Duval (a little too much for me at the crazy end, although nice to scooter through during the day/evening). Southermost is very grand and full of antiques, so not as "cozy" as some might like, but it's got great character and no where quite as regal as it to stay on the island (since it's a casual kind of town). I love that there's so much history too. Being on the ocean is a perk, and what great sunsets! The bar gets lively (with a great bartender who is straight out of a Buffet song) but it's all mild stuff and reminds you we're on vacation!
anyway, thought i'd post my thoughts. We ate at Pisces (for our engagement dinner) which was amazing and 7 fish the next night which was also fantastic. Great getaway trip. Highly recommend only driving one way (or flying in and out of Key West) since it's a long one. The cabs in KW are rip offs though..esp too and from the airport!
