Suggestions for a girls weekend getaway near DC?
Hi there! I'm looking for suggestions for a hotel in the DC area for a girls weekend getaway. It's a gift for my mom, who lives in the MD suburbs but hasn't explored much outside the major DC monuments. I'd like to find a nice hotel in the city to take her for a fun weekend "away" (couldn't swing the airfare, so we're stuck to driving distance locations) I'd like to find something in the $150-$200/night price range, convenient to good shopping, metro and maybe a good spa. She's used to staying in the Motel 6 type places, so something more upscale would thrill her! I've heard Georgetown has good for shopping, but I'd love some suggestions for other fun locations as well. We'll have a car, though I'd prefer to drive as little as possible in the DC traffic. I'm a little familiar with the area, but haven't lived there in 10+ years, so I'd love some advice for where to stay, what to do and some neat places to eat.
Thanks so much!!

I'd recommend staying around Dupont Circle. Georgetown would also be nice, but doesn't have the advantage of the metro that Dupont has. Unfortunately, I don't have any personal experience with hotels around here, so can only comment on location. Others on this board have recommended specific hotels in the Dupont area, though, and someone posted recently that she got a good weekend deal at the Mayflower using priceline.

I use to live across the street from the omni shoreham in woodley park. Good safe area - can walk to dupont circle, adams morgan, or the zoo. Metro is right there. I think the sheraton is the other close hotel. Dupont circle is another fun place and safe. Great restaurants. If you stay in woodley park, there is a Irish pub called Murphy's of DC I worked in for a few years. The food isn't great, but they have irish music if your mom likes this kind of thing.
