Southern Fall Foliage ... Wow!
Mention fall foliage in the United States and places like Vermont and The White Hills of New Hampshire come to mind. However, parts of the South like Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas can be just as beautiful as in the Northeast and more affordable.
From Atlanta I take a journey on Georgia 400 North also known as 19 North then 60 North towards Tennessee 68 North. I am amazed at the beautiful fall colors. Along some areas of the highway the median is covered with brilliant pink and purple flowers which provide a stark contrast to the bright reds, orange and yellows in the background. Combined with hairpin curves and snaking roads I am thoroughly enjoying this fall journey on a rented Honda ST-1300 motorcycle. If you have an opportunity to visit this part of the country in the next week or two, do it! You won't be disappointed. For photos: http://dmbtravelertnt.blogspot.com/2...ll-colors.html |
Thanks for posting this. I'm on my way down I-81 later this week to Greeneville, TN, and hope the drive will be as pleasant.

Greeneville, is further NE than where I drove but I imagine it will be just as beautiful. I don't know if you looked at my pictures but the weather was picture perfect. Not a cloud in the sky for "a thousand miles". Hope you get to enjoy the "Southern Fall Foliage" as much as I did! |
Last week was supposedly peak in northern NC so this week should be peak in North GA/ lower NC & TN.
Here's a webcam of the mountains at 3500+ft in Georgia. Lower elevations should follow a week later. http://www.gastateparks.org/webcam (right now it's a night pic. gorgeous stars with zero light pollution) |
Here's one update sharing the progress from upstate through SC with the last update for Greenville.
