Hotel near LAX
Can anyone recommend a hotel near to LAX. We're staying (my wife, 7 year old son and I) staying for a couple of nights on the way back from Hawaii. We have a car and can travel, but would like to be able to leave the car at the rental company on the night before we fly out first thing next morning (less hassle). Any suggestions or recommendations gratefully received.

It depends on your budget. All the usual major chains (Hilton, Sheraton, Mariott, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, etc.) have hotels in the area with free shuttles to the airport. Also some second tier chains, Hampton Inn, Fairfield Suites, etc. have hotels in the area and I think all ohave the free shuttles.

A few years ago, on several occasions, I stayed at the Embassy Suites on Imperial. It was completely satisfactory in every way.

You didn't ask, but if you'll have a car -- I personally wouldn't stay at LAX. One night before a very early AM flight -- sure. But two nights? I wouldn't.
I'd stay in Santa Monica or someplace nice - you'd still be convenient to the rental car returns.

I endorse the Embassy on Imperial and the Marriott Manhattan. I will add to the list the Crown Plaza in Redondo Beach. You are 20 minutes from excellent Southern California beach communities. Don't stay at the airport.

Try the Belamar Hotel in Manhattan Beach, just 4 miles from LAX. They're offering some rate discounts for 2-night stays through August, plus free parking, free wifi, free loaner bikes. It's close to restaurants, shopping, movies.

or the Residence Inn near Manhattan Beach. All are 10-12 mins to Lax. I would not return the car the night before...rental return at LAX is a breeze, the shuttle vans are always right there waiting...no more trouble than waiting for a shuttle from your hotel in the morning (and wondering if they're going to show up on time).

The motel 6 near LAX can easily be compared to a Best Western or other hotel. They have a fine restaurant and bar. You're close to the car rental shops and you have a shuttle service to/from the airport. What more do you need ?

Embassy Suites would work for a family. I think they have an airport shuttle. There are a few other suite hotels in El Segundo, eg Homestead Studio, Residence Inn, Summerfield. You'll be near the beach at Manhattan Beach and some good shopping without the parking and traffic issues of Santa Monica. If they don't have shuttles a taxi shouldn't be too much.
