Southern California...weather/clothes etc.

We spent 3 months in Loma Linda (Nov-Feb)..now we are going back in June for two weeks for follow-up, What can we expect weather-wise? Had several over 80 days in Jan..know that's not usual...will it get cool morning/evening? Rain? What should I know about the "June Gloom"?..can't wait to get back..hope it's as beautiful as I remember!

You will be much warmer than your Nov/Feb visit. You can always be cool in the evenings and mornings particularly when you are close to the coast or the desert. You will see temps above 90 frequently in June.

June Gloom is a coastal phenomenon - more than a few miles inland and you wont be affected at all. I had to look up Loma Linda on a map and it looks like it is about 30 miles from the coast, so no June Gloom for you. Basically June Gloom is just overcast skies caused by the marine layer anyway - makes things a bit chilly, usually burns off about mid day. So bring a light jacket and/or a fleece to throw in the car when you head over to the coast. No rain in the summer months, so no need to worry about that - in fact, the first time I left California (I was 17) and saw rain in the summertime, I was totally shocked - LOL.

Nov_moon, that is so funny! I remember my SoCal-raised daughters being amazed during a summer rainstorm in Indiana - it was warm and raining! Not usual in SoCal.

retired, it will be cool in the evenings, even if it is quite warm during the daytime.

Hi retired04,
First let me wish you all the best with the followup visit.

We have June Gloom's cousin, "May Gray", here right now along the coast, but it should be sunny and nice inland at Loma Linda. The other great thing that my east coast relatives cannot believe is how you can sit outside on warm summer evenings and rarely be bothered by insects.

Just know that if you plan to visit the coast, the fog burns off around noon, but can roll back in during the late afternoon/early evening.

Enjoy your visit!

I echo the replies from above Retired. Best wishes on your return visit. It gets pretty toasty where you will be - but the coast can, like all others have stated but cooler - at night you may still need a jacket.
