Oops. I hit send before I entered my message. Here goes: Going to Southern California in late June with two teen boys (age 18 and 15). We love the beach and the boys like to surf. They also want to be where the action is. Where in So. Cal. should we go?

Thanks.

For surf and beach, you have a huge number of choices from San Diego/Coronado to Santa Barbara.

What other things do you like to do so we can narrow your search a bit?

San Diego is a great spot to go with kids and there are lots of nearby condo rentals on the beach. We stayed in Oceanside and were there for a surfing competition a few years ago.

I think the boys would like Ocean Beach.
Its kind of a funky suburb of SD- not upscale like LaJolla or DelMar - but, at least in my mind, the vision of the Ca surfing scene in the 60's. There is a lot of activity there, lots of shops, restaurants and places to rent surf boards and take lessons.
There is a long pier with a cute restaurant at the end - didnt eat there because I had already eaten, but looked very cute.

Right next to Ocean Beach is Dog Beach which was riot watching all the dogs running around and playing in the water.
Another favorite beach of my daughters is Moonlight Beach in Encinitas
