Souther California Itinerary - LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara

Planning a week long trip to SoCal..arriving evening July 2 into LAX, renting a convertable. Have previously been to LA, but not to SD or Santa Barbara.

July 2 - arrive late into LA
July 3 - drive up to Santa Barbara
July 4 - Malibu/Santa Monica
July 5 - Beverly Hills/Hollywood
July 6 - San Diego-Coronado
July 7 - San Diego-La Jolla
July 8 - San Diego TBD
July 9 - afternoon flight back from LAX

1 night in LA, 1 night in SB, 2 back in LA and 3 in SD

Thoughts?

Looks good, where are you staying in Santa Barbara and Coronado? We love the Harbor View Inn in Santa Barbara and the Hotel Del in Coronado. ***kim***

On July 6th (if you want to do it enroute) or any day while you're in the southern end, I'd make a short side trip to San Juan Capistrano to visit the Mission SJC. It's one of the original Missions established along El Camino Real by Father Serra and is a wonderful place to spend an hour or three walking around.

It could also be done as a day trip from San Diego by jumping on AMTRAK to SJC - about an hours train ride, most along the beautiful SoCal beaches.

I figured it will be easier to stay in just on hotel in the LA area and 1 hotel in the SD area. No?
The Del Coronado is very nice, but I don't really want to spend $300/night on accomodations. We went to Hawaii in Jan, so would prefer to at least try to do this trip on a budget
