South west Time zones including indian reservations
 

Can anyone give advice on keeping up with time zones in las vegas, grand canyon s rim, canyon d chelly -indian reservation, monument valley- reservation, page az,Bryce NP, Zion NP. How can I keep track of time on our trip? Especially the indian reservations and daylight savings times. I don't want to be late for reserved tours.

I am not certain but I think that you will be in the same time zone in Vegas and Az.

It isn't easy especially at the Arizona/Utah border, and the radio stations aren't much help.

Arizona is in the Mountain Time Zone but, but does not observe Daylight Saving Time (so in the summer it is the same time as CA or Nevada)

Utah and the Navajo Nation part of Arizona are in Mountain Time Zone, and observe Daylight Savings.

I was glad that the motel office at Gouldings Lodge had a clock on the outside.

Call the tour company the day before your tour to confirm your reservation and ask them what time it is. Compare their time to your current time and adjust as needed. Don't be embarrased to ask, it's better than missing your tour.

And to help make it simple...until October 29th , 2006 it is as follows:

When it's <b>Noon</b> in Arizona {Grand Canyon, Page etc} -- it will be <b>Noon</b> in NV {Las Vegas} AND it will be <b>1 pm </b>in Navajo Nation and Utah { Bryce, Zion NP}.

I agree with richbutnot. Call and ask the tour operator &quot;What time is it?&quot; to ensure you know what time zone they are in.

If your map is good, you will know if you are on or off Navajo land. The confusing part is Arizona. The state does not use Daylight Saving Time. The Navajo Nation within Arizona does. So, the time change occurs when you travel from a point in Arizona to a point in the Navajo Nation in Arizona.

A good map (to see the boundaries of the Navajo Nation) with a backup call to the tour operator to doublecheck which time zone they operate in will keep you straight.

Thank you for the time zone help. While I was making reservation with Wilderness River Adventures I asked what there time zone was in Page. She said,&quot;Pacific&quot;. Was she annoyed by the question and being a smarty? How is Page, AZ in Pacific time zone?

Pacific is the name of the time zone in the western-most part of the Continental U.S.; or put another way, the time zone that's west of the Mountain Time Zone.

When daylight savings time is in effect for California (but not Page AZ), the time in Page is identical to that of California. In other words, Pacific Time. Her response was trying to be helpful.

Don't ask what time zone they are in. Ask what TIME it is.

I agree she was trying to be helpful and folks get so confused about the different time zones in Arizona.

If you original question is your concern - JUST CALL AND ASK THE TOUR OPERATOR WHAT TIME IT IS RIGHT THEN. Then, look at your watch and factor in the different time (or not) before you drive the next day to your tour location.
