South Texas in January

Looking at south Texas in mid January. What kind of weather can we expect from Houston to the Mexican border?

Any recommendation of places to visit and golf?

Informed in put would really help

Thanks

My father used to tell me as a little girl, growing up, that there are two things in life that are certain. One is death in Texas, and I can't remember the other one.

You can expect anything from weather in the 20's to the 70's -- it all depends on whether a cold front has blown through. In Houston: visit NASA, the Museum of Science, and San Jacinto Monument, and shop at the Galleria. On the way to Mexico is Corpus Christi, with lots of water activities, replicas of the Nina, Pinta & Santa Maria, the Lexington Aircraft Carrier, and the Texas State Aquarium. At the southern tip, cross the border for fun shopping and good eats. As far as golf goes, I'm not too familiar, but think the Woodlands in Houston is highly-ranked.

There is a TPC at the woodlands around houston

there are other resorty places in the hill country toward san antonio

corpus christi is quite nice

the texas coast is on the migration path for many birds--if you are into that sort of thing

As stated before, the weather could go either way. Temps do not often go below freezing in Houston, but it can happen. If it does happen, that will be an overnight low. It is extremely rare to see a daytime high that's below freezing in Houston. It's also not unusual to see 70 degrees in January. Of course as you go South it gets warmer. What part of the Mexican border are you looking at? If you are going to Matamoros it will probably be warmer than any other border town, but in any case, I don't think it will be terribly cold, if it's cold at all. The best thing I can recommend is to check the forecast just before you leave home.
