South Jersey Shore - November
 

Hey Fodorites,

My parents just bought a beachhouse in South Jersey, Sea Isle to be exact. My fiance and I were thinking of going for a long weekend in early November. Due to our schedules we don't have a free weekend until then.
A couple of questions.

Is sea shore deserted? I don't care if most things are shutdown but I would like to go at least one nice dinner.

What else is there to do? How is Cape May in the late fall? I just don't want to get there and the only thing we can do is watch TV or go to the movies. We are planning to go to AC for one night?

You will have a wonderful time. What people sometimes don't realize is that shore towns in NJ have a substantial year-round population and dont necessarily shut down after summer. This means that restaurants and shops are open year-round unless they are a truly summer-only, beach-only establishment. But then again early November can be glorious and unless its rainy there will be people fishing, strolling on the board walk, boating, etc....especially on the weekend.

If you go to Cape May you should check out the lighthouse. Also, make sure to hunt for those Cape May "diamonds." Anyone in town will point you to the right beach.

I don't know about Sea Isle, but I live at the Jersey Shore and most towns near me do not shut down on the off season. Cape May is very active all year round.

I don't mean to say the towns shutdown but still have options for a nice dinner. While I find my fiance beautiful, I just don't want to end up staring at her for four days. I know she feels the same way.

Sea Isle is pretty quiet in the off-season and some resturants do close after Labor Day while others are open just on wekends. (I think Busch's shuts down entirely.) But, you'll find some restaurants in Sea Isle that remain open, and there are some good ones in Stone Harbor, too. Cape May remains an active little place all year round.
