South Ferry Station
I'm thinking about taking the subway to the South Ferry station and taking the Staten Island Ferry as a "sightseeing" activity. I can take the 1 train to the South Ferry station but am wondering if all the subway cars pull into the station or if I need to be in one of the front cars. In the past we've gone to Battery Park and I remember there was an announcement on the train that only the first several cars would actually enter the station. Is this true of my situation as well?
Thanks in advance for any help. :-) |

You remember correctly the way it used to work, moving to the front cars. This is no longer the case.

You can also take the "R" train to Whitehall.

Cool! Thanks. I saw that the station on the Staten Island side had been renovated but I didn't realize the Manhattan side was new, too.

The renovation on the Manhattan side are particularly god in another sense. In the past, the South Ferry station and the Whitehall station mentioned by Aduchamp were two completely separate stations. With the renovation, they are now connected underground and you can even transfer between the two train lines.
