South Carolina and Georgia coast
My sister and I (adventurous, healthy, barely 60 year olds) will have six days in the low country. She's from California and has never visited this part of our country. After three days in Savannah, what do you suggest we do? Places to stay? eat? explore? This isn't a super budget trip, but we don't usually stay in the Ritz either.

I would spend two days in Savannah then drive to Charleston for the rest of the trip. You could make a stop in Beaufort for lunch and tour the Penn Center (Gullah museum) and still be in your hotel by late afternoon. Lots of trip reports here on both cities.

Thanks for the ideas! We hadn't thought about doing both Charleston and Savannah, but we will now. The Gullah museum was the sort of thing I was hoping to learn about. We'll think of you while we tour!
JAX might have been a smart decision but we already have our plane tickets.

Definitely Savannah and then Charleston. While in Charleston, be sure to eat some local cuisine, visit a historical house, a plantation, and perhaps one of the beautiful barrier islands (Kiawah, Seabrook, Edisto, Sullivans, or Isle of Palms).
When in Charleston, I would recommend checking some places to stay downtown for specials (Francis Marion Hotel, Holiday Inn Express, Mills House, Charleston Place, assortment of B&B). If none are available or they are too pricey, try Mt. Pleasant as it is only a few minutes across the river via the beautiful new bridge.
Also, I would recommend a drive over to Mt. Pleasant via Highway 17 to Shem Creek - maybe lunch and a drink on the deck at Vickerys - it is delightful.
Also, for GREAT food, try the Mustard Seed in Mt. Pleasant on Chuck Dawley Blvd. Downtown Charleston, try Magnolias, Blossoms, Saffron for lunch, Tristans, Mellow Mushroom Pizza, Basil... for suggestions. Dining can be pricey purchase snacks at the grocery store or pick up deli sandwiches and eat in the beautiful gardens in the Battery.
